Technology is one of the most important things in everyone’s life. Technology improves every day. in regards to today’s youth, they were born with all the new technological inventions as opposed to our parents. In “Quality Time, Redefined” by Alex Williams, published in the New York Times, the author talks about the positive and negative effects on technology. I enjoyed this reading because it related my personal day to day life. “One family. One Room. Four Screens. Four realities.” When he made this point I automatically thought about my household and how the statement compared to my family. In my house we do not interact with each very often. We are either always on our phones, watching TV, or on the computer, which is not very good when you think about it. This is something we have gotten accustomed to doing. I strongly agree that electronics have their effects on families, so much that is to the point where small children have and can function iPads, iPhones and other devices. According to “PEW Research Centers” and the “Internet and American Life Project” research shows that “60 percent of American families with children own 2 or more computers”. Dr. Koepnick states how technology has changed the quality time shared by families. He also states if you go back 200 years, there were valid complaints about the future with technology devices but the main focus back then was reading books which kept everyone busy. Back in the day families seemed to be much more family orientated, they were reading books, outside engaging in activities, and doing typical family things. Now everybody can be found just dazed on their phone and looking at the television screen. Technology keeps you updated about the things that are going on worldwide and you can store important information throughout your devices. There are so many forms of technology besides your phone and your computer. Technology can provide goods and services to those in serious need. Technology has the most effect in the medical field. It has helped cure sickness, detect diseases and help people that are facing death. Over the past 10-20 years there has been so many new tech advances in the medical field. For example, dermatologist have a handheld tool approved by the FDA for multispectral analysis of tissue morphology. The “Mela-Find” optical scanner is not for definitive diagnosis but rather to provide additional information a doctor can use in determining whether or not to order a biopsy. The goal of this device is to reduce the number of patients left with unnecessary biopsy scars, with the added benefit of eliminating the cost of unnecessary procedures Technology in the medical field has a big part of our life. Technology in the medical field has helped me personally because when I got into a car accident and had to end up getting an x-ray for the first time. My experience with that was interesting to me and I was kind of excited to see how it worked but nervous at the same time.
