On the other hand, ironically, phones make us detached yet connected. Our heads and eyes are down and constantly glued to our handheld devices. Instead of engaging in conversation with the people around us, we would rather go online and brush up on the latest gossip or learn what a friend is currently doing. In a sense, we have become addicts to these devices, going through withdrawal when they 're not around. We have come so far in technology that we forget life before it. Sadly, this upcoming generation can 't even attest to this because instead of being pushed outside to play with their friends, they are given tablets for their source of entertainment. Reducing phone use brings us back to reality. Downtime will be actual downtime, not just us sitting on a couch while we 're on our phones. An outing to a park won 't become an impromptu photo shoot. The benefit of this idea is that we get to enjoy life without a screen in front of our face. The moments that make our lives special won 't be ruined by rushing to record it or tweet it. They 'll be preserved in our memories which trump anything a picture could offer.
The terms JOMO and FOMO adequately summarizes the feeling that comes with not using your phone and using it, respectively. I concede with the notion that there is a joy obtained when we limit or completely stop phone usage while out. In this sense, you get to soak up all that is happening around you without being distracted about what others may be doing. This allows a person to be in tuned with what is going on around them and not with what may be going on. The antithesis of this is FOMO. This impacts us when we are home, alone, and bored and see that people we know are enjoying their lives. Technology has made us afr...

It all depends on our individual self control which will ultimately decide if we stay connected or present, and once we are present we can enjoy “charm of a life less connected.”
