My topic is focused on immigrant parents and to notice if there parenting style has changed. I am interested in this topic because I’m wondering to see how many Indian parents stick to their originally parenting styles as they move to a new country, specifically United States. Literature Question: Did parenting styles changed for Indian immigrants coming from India to the United States. Research Question: Why did Indian parents changed their parenting style as they moved to the United States? According to R.K Gupta and A. Panda, “the family is a key social institution that exerts a definitive influence on the lives of all its members” (Gupta and Panda, 2003; 650). In India, family is a crucial part of a child’s development of skills. The parents and siblings are not the only people responsible for the child’s growth and development. Additionally, Garcia Coll and Trawick Smith state, “Asian Indian parents are faced with the issue of rearing their children in a culture very dissimilar to their own, and with trying to help them retain their cultural identity while at the same time fitting into the larger society” (Coll, 1996; Smith 1997; 408).
