Social Injustice

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,” Abraham Lincoln. Our founding fathers agree that every man and women are created equal, that one should not be discriminated by social or racial class. During the 1930s-1960s social inequality was prevalent in everyday society. Everyday social groups were separated regardless of racial class. Whether in Maycomb, Alabama Jena, LA or New Orleans social injustice is prevalent in our everyday lives. During To Kill a Mockingbird social inequality plays a key role showing how even courts can be bias due to social class. “There’s something in our world that makes men lose their heads they couldn’t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it’s a white man word against a black man’s word the white always wins. They’re ugly but these are the facts of life” (Lee 252). At a pivotal scene where Atticus recollects racism in the Justice System in Maycomb, Alabama. Knowing that the Tom Robinson case is nearly impossible to prove not guilty, he accepts the case believing that every man deserves the best legal representation. In the Tom Robinson case the only evidence was 3 testimonies, 2 from Bob and Mayella Ewell and 1 from Tom Robinson. Having no physical evidence pleading Tom Robinson not guilty played a key role in the case. Although these facts against Tom Robinson seems unfair this is life in Maycomb. “Lula stopped, but she said, "You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here – they got their church, we got our'n. It is our church, ain't it, Miss Cal?” (Lee 269). Calpurnia tries to take Jem and Scout into her church where only African Americans are, but ... ... middle of paper ... ... given attempted murder due to the indirect death threats that they had sent out. After a popular uproar these children were instead given assault in place of attempted murder. Due to this horrific social injustice this town is now split amongst the black and white children today. During the 21st century all colored people have been given equal rights, but still they fight over an incident 50 years ago. Jena Six was the beginning of a social injustice uproar which later led to equal rights of all colored people. Everyday we see people get mistreated due to racial profiling. Everyday we mistreat and judge because the colors of pigment on people. Due to this we were split amongst races in a never ending war and everyone was enrolled. Due to the social injustice in To Kill a Mockingbird, “Jena Six”, and “The Problems We All Live With” we were split because of races.
