How can lung cancer affect you? Lung cancer is a disease in which cells in your body grow out of control, which starts in your lungs. This type of cancer is the leading cause of cancer death and also the second most diagnosed cancer for both men and women in the United States. “In 2011, 14% of all cancer diagnosed 27% of all cancer deaths were due to this disease.” (Basic Information about Lung Cancer, 2014) “The American society’s estimates for lung cancer in the United States for 2015 are about 221,200 new cases of lung cancer and about 158,040 deaths from lung cancer.” (How Many People Get Lung Cancer, 2014) in 2012 lung cancer was the 4th most frequent cancer in the city of India, Globsocan. In the population of India there are about 1 …show more content…
Having cancer affects your life in many different ways. When you have cancer you are limited to activities you can do or even how long you can do it. Having any type of cancer can limit how long you live and it can also put you in some difficult times throughout the rest of your life. With cancer you will suffer depending on the type of cancer you have and where it is located at. Having this sickness can also make you tired more often than normal and it also can give you pain throughout your life. Lung cancer has two major types of lung cancer, small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. “Small cell lung cancer is very strongly related with cigarettes smoking with only 1% of these tumors occurring in non-smokers.” (Types of lung cancer, 2013) Each one of these grows differently and is treated differently as …show more content…
Most patients are diagnosed by using limited cytology and small amounts of biopsy material. (Zakowski, 2013) One way is by smoking, which is the number one factor for lung cancer. U.S. cigarette smoking linked about 90% lung cancer. Also using tobacco products such as cigars or pipes; they also increase the risk for lung cancer. Another way is secondhand smoke, which is smoke of other people’s cigarettes, pipes, or cigars. They inhale the smoke as like if there smoking it directly. “In U.S. 2 out of 5 who don’t smoke, half children that are exposed to it and about 7,000 people who never smoke die from lung cancer due to secondhand smoke every year.” (Lung Cancer, 2014) Another way is radon, a gas that comes from rocks, dust, and can get trapped in houses and buildings. You cannot see it, taste it, or even smell it, according to the U.S. Environment Protection
According to “Medical News Today” cancer is a disease that is caused by an over growth of anomalous cells on one or more lungs. Cells often go up the air pipes which can cause difficulty to breath. Due to the over production of cells the tissue cells often begin to over produce; which results in tumors. There are two types of tumors: malignant and benign. Malignant tumors are the more dangerous of the two due to its invasive nature; which makes it cancerous. While benign is not invasive in other words non-cancerous. This is why cancer spreads to multiple areas and can be sometimes very difficult to fight. Cancer cells are abnormal not only because of their evasive nature, but also because of its irregular life cycle. Rather than expire like a regular cell, they continuously grow and duplicate which causes the disease to spread. This makes cell abnormal in shape and other qualities; known as a sickle cell. Due to the large growth and reproduction rate of the cells this makes the spreading of the cancer more rapid. Each cancer has specific symptom, for lung cancer the sympto...
In the early stages of lung cancer, symptoms are hard to recognize. Symptoms usually include a persistent cough, coughing up blood, weight loss, chest or shoulder pain, swelling in the face or neck, shortness of breath, and a hoarse voice (Microsoft, “Lung Cancer';). Repeated cases of pneumonia, a virus in which the lungs become inflamed, or bronchitis, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bronchia tubes, may be warning signs for lung cancer (Scientific American, “Lung Cancer';).
Cells are generally supposed to go through a cycle, where they grow, divide, then die. Lung cancer cells however grow and divide, but never die, which is called apoptosis (Crosta). Lung cancer is by far the most deadliest cancer (Marks) because sign and symptoms do not appear early enough for you to get screened (Knowing). There are signs and symptoms that may appear but it all depends on where the cancer is located in the lungs. Symptoms may include: pain in the chest, intense coughing, difficultly breathing and swallowing, raspy sounds while breathing, and or coughing up blood (Crosta). If the cancer has spread to any other places, symptoms might include: fatigue, unexplained weight loss, weakness, swelling in the neck of face, or pain in the joints (Crosta). The reason many people get diagnosed with lung cancer is because they inhale dangerous carcinogens. Those carcinogens damage many cell’s DNA that “help” out cells so that they can grow into cancer. Things like tobacco, radiation, sun and car exhaust fumes are known as carcinogens (Crosta). Smoking, of course, causes cancer too. Smoking puts smokers at a higher risk than non-smokers. The more cigarettes you smoke a day and the earlier someone started smoking, the greater risk of them being diagnosed with this cancer (Lung Cancer). Secondhand smoke can be damaging and harmful just like regular smoking. The smoke
Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world. Although, it is a challenging cancer to treat more ways and treatments are being presented and studied daily. Lung cancer is a deadly disease that presents many problems in a person’s life. There are ways to decrease your chance of developing cancer, but there are too many environmental factors that play a role in cancer to be sure you can positively prevent it.
Cancer has become the one of the most feared things for human beings. The various type of cancer have been discovered and there are still a lot of it that undiscoverable. Cancer is a complex disease that have a group of disease. The cancer itself cannot be describe by words. The causes of this cancer is still not being able to be discovered fully. There are only minor factor that can lead to this disease. The carcinogens are believed to be one of the causes that lead to cancer such as asbestos, radon gas, tobacco, PVC and much more from our chemical industries. The environment especially near to the industrial that produce chemical waste can be one of the causes lead to cancer. Cancer also have relation with our age, lifestyle, and diet and also can be genetically inherited. It is believed that older people have higher tendency to get cancer than younger people. Our lifestyle and diet also plays a role causing a cancer by our daily life routine. Smoking tobacco and eating unconsciously (still in research) can also increase the possibility to get cancer especially lung cancer that cause by smoking tobacco. There are several cases, cancer were inherited from their parents. Various type of viruses such as HIV, HPV, EBV and many more virus has a high capabilities to increase the chance a patient to get a cancer because these viruses lower their body immunity to disease.
Lung cancer dates back to 1761 when it was called disease. In 1878 only 1% of the populations were thought to have it. When the 1900s came by that number rose to 15%. There was only 374 case filed by 1912. It wasn’t until 1929 when smoking became a factor in lung cancer. Fritz Lickint was the first person to tell the public about the dangers of smoking that which went into a campaign act to tell worldwide about the dangers of smoking.
Carcinogenic effect of tobacco was the most important discovery in the history of cancer epidemiology. Lung c...
Cancer is a deadly disease that affects millions of American families each year. In cancer, cell division isn't controlled. Usually, cells have to go through a set of checks and balances before they divide, in cancer that is nonexistent. The cells just keep duplicating until they eventually form disorganized clumps called tumors. Tumors can either be, benign, meaning that they do not possess the power to metastasize to surrounding areas. If a tumor has the power to metastasize, it is classified as a malignant tumor. In simple terms, a benign tumor is not cancerous, and a malignant tumor is. Cancer cells cannot perform the necessary functions they were created for. Some types of cancers, like pancreatic cancer, cannot be cured. Other cancers such as melanoma and breast cancer have high survival rates when caught early. The four major types of treatments used to treat cancer include, surgery to remove the affected organ, radiation, chemotherapy, or biological treatments.
Cancer of the lung was nearly nonexistent in the early 1900’s. By the middle of the 20th century an epidemic became apparent throughout the United States and the rest of the world. It is primarily correlated with the widespread abundance of cigarette smoking in the world. The tobacco industry has multiplied its production immediately prior to World War I. There was a typical 20 to 30 year lagging period between the initiation of cigarette smoking and the actual tumor formation in the lungs. Lung cancer is the cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. It occurs when cells in the lung start to grow rapidly in an uncontrolled manner. Lung cancer can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system. Most of all lung cancer cases start in the lining of the bronchi (health-cares.net, 2005). It is the leading cause of all cancer deaths in the world. During this time the tobacco companies would continue to say that cigarette smoking was not addictive and did not cause any type of cancer. Even with all evidence in the world today about tobacco causing cancer, Tobacco companies still remain the most profitable business in the world. Lung cancer is very common in both women and men. Women account for about 40 percent of the lung cancer cases in the world. Women who smoke are more than twice as likely to develop lung cancer as those of men who smoke (Tavor, 2005).
Over a hundred years ago lung cancer was considered a very rare disease. Lung cancer is a disease that is known worldwide. Lung cancer is one of the four most common cancer. Lung cancer is detrimental to the Respiratory System and can cause permanent damage. Lung cancer is a tumor that grows in your lungs and it can also spread to other parts of your body. Early stages of lung cancer are hard to detect because it could take about a year for the tumor to grow to the point when you start experiencing symptoms. The most common cause of lung cancer is smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products. There are other causes like secondhand smoke, asbestos, and lung cancer is common in your family.Lung cancer has different risk factors, symptoms,
Cancer can affect anywhere from the brain, lungs, and liver, to the breasts and heart. One of the most common types of cancer is “Carcinoma” “Cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs -- "skin, lung, colon, pancreatic, ovarian cancers," (Medicine net)”. This shows that dozens of different types of cancer only fall into a small category and can all only be treated by certain means. Some types of cancers are even incurable making them particularly dangerous because once you get one of those types of cancers there is nothing that you can do except wait for the inevitable death that awaits you. Meanwhile other forms of cancers are minor, meaning that there is therapy and cures for them, however just because they are minor compared to the more deadly types of cancer, all forms of cancer are extremely potent and dangerous. Sarcoma is another form of cancer “that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue -- bone, soft tissue cancers, (Medicine Net)”. This form of cancer affects the body by taking out the supportive tissues and functions, causing extreme pain and discomfort for whom ever is unlucky enough to get it. One of the most common types of cancer is leukemia which “Cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and
Amongst the different types of fatal diseases, which humanity still has not been able to treat, cancer stands as one of the greatest feared illnesses. Unlike malaria, AIDS or other diseases that are contagious and easily transmittable in underdeveloped and low income countries, Cancer affects people all around the world, including equally rich and poor countries. Among the different forms of cancer, lung cancer remains the most common. The environment in which the public lives in plays a huge role in the development of this cancer. Cancer develops when cells in the body are mutated, and thus causing uncontrollable and rapid growth. Lung cancer is the uncontrollable development of atypical cells that form in either both or one lung. Lung cancer
Lung cancer is the most common cancer in the world. There are many ways to attract lung cancer. Many people think that the only way to get cancer is by being a smoker but believe it or not you can get cancer without ever even smoking a cigarette. There also are different forms of lung cancer some are life threatening and others aren’t. My goal is for you to know everything about and or dealing with Lung Cancer by the end of this paper. Throughout this paper I will elaborate on those topics and I will also talk about some of the symptoms, and ways to prevent attracting it, cures and a few more topics.
Cancer is defined as where the abnormal cells are divided without any control and they are able to invade into tissues. At times cancer can be cured right away once it is detected through treatments that the doctor recommends, but at times cancer cannot be cured based on what stage the cancer is at. It is very important that every individual gets a physical check up to see if they are diagnosed or detected with any sort of cancer or disease. There are 100 types of cancers out there, but the type of cancer that I will be focusing on is Lung cancer. One of the controversial issues on a lung cancer is the ...
Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer. The American Lung Association says that cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 different chemicals. Many of these chemicals have been proven to be cause cancer. Many of these chemicals also affect the nonsmoker who inhales "secondhand" smoke, which makes secondhand smoke another major caus...
