People are sick, and it is because of listeria. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is doing all they can do to help fight the listeria outbreak before it is blown up, more than it already is. Jeni’s Ice Cream is safe to eat because they have no deaths from their produce. The news and consumers have blown this outbreak up way more than it needed to be because they didn’t realize that Jeni didn’t have contaminated produce that they could consume. Jeni’s Ice Cream should be doing as well as it used to because they had a problem, they recognized the problem, then they resolved the problem.
Listeria is a type of bacterium that infects humans and other warm blooded animals through contaminated food. (Dictionary.com, 2016) In other words, it is food poisoning from unpasteurized milk or dairy products. Some symptoms of listeria include but are not limited to; fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and headaches. People with impaired or weakened immune systems are usually the ones who get listeria, but it is not limited to that classification if a person with a strong immune system ingests the bacteria because a person with a better immune system has a higher chance of fighting off the foreign bacteria. (about-listeria.com, 2016) Numerous different companies and generations of people have been fighting against listeria since the middle ages, but only recently has it become known to the world through bigger, better businesses like Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream or even Blue Bell Ice Cream companies that have been in the news for listeria. Even though Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has claimed our hearts, they have not claimed any lives. Listeria has however, made over 2,600 people seriously ill every year according to an article by Marler Clark at abo...

...g all the testing they can do to try and combat this listeria. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream tests every batch of product they serve daily. Daily testing means there is less of a chance to encounter increased numbers of listeria. Out of all of the testing swabs only two out of seventy five swabs came back positive, but that was only from the production floor. None of the product testing has come back positive, which means none of the food has been contaminated with listeria.
As stated in the above articles, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is doing all that they can do to help fight the spread of listeria. There are some precautions that we need to take to help fight listeria and Jeni is doing all they can do to help. No matter where we go, how clean we think we are, or how healthy we think we are, there are always going to be germs and bacteria in everything we do and touch.
