1920’s- The story of IKEA began in 1926, when Ingvar Kamprad, the found of IKEA, was born in southern Sweden. Being raised on ‘Elmtaryd’, a small farming village, he started selling matches at the age of five. By the time he was seven, he expanded to selling flower seeds, decorations, pencils and greeting cards.
1940’s- In 1943, at the age of 17, IKEA is founded by Ingvar when his father rewarded him with money for succeeding in his education, using it to establish a business of his own. He started by selling simple products like jewellery, watches, pens, wallets...etc. In 1945, IKEA’s first advertisements appeared in local newspapers and in 1948; IKEA expanded its range by including furniture into its line, which were made by local manufacturers near his home.

Before Ikea became one of the major furniture retail store worldwide they were once a small woods of southern Sweden.
