I did not have a firm writing philosophy before this semester, but I to some degree I understood the importance writing can have on a situation. Now I understand that writing has two outcomes: gaining support or losing support. When writing an essay it is best if the writing is as specific as possible. This way the audience is hopefully not left with a confused opinion about the topic. Since the beginning of the semester I have put a conscious effort to change my writing style. Instead of the box format that is learned in high school I try to use a more graceful approach while still being organized. Also, I evaluate the credibility of a source before I use the information to support my thesis and understand the roles of using ethos, pathos, and logos. My assignments are now written with more developed thought by elaborating on ideas in the body paragraphs. By participating in the assignments throughout the semester I have accomplished, to different extents, the objectives for the English Composition 101 course. My writing has improved in multiple areas such as knowing who my audience is, and how writing drafts and making revisions help me evaluate the effectiveness of my essay. I am also aware that academic writing differs from day-to-day writing because for academic writing I need to present the most credible evidence in an organized format. Furthermore, I now can effectively evaluate my writing to know where I can improve.
In order to create an effective essay several components are necessary, but a specific component is knowing the target audience. Without knowing a target audience I cannot write an essay with the proper tone and language. Using the correct terms and jargon are crucial to keep the audience’s attention and poss...

...rifying my supporting sentences. Even though my writing still has areas that need improvement, I have fulfilled the objectives to certain degree. Some of the objectives I only met to a minimum, but those objectives will be fully grasped with further development of my writing. My academic writing has also improved by me taking time to fully understand who my audience will be. I use appropriate tone and language to appeal to my audience, so my thoughts will be understood. Creating an essay that flows with organization and transitional phrases also improves my academic writing by showing I understand what I am writing about. Completing the assignments for English Composition 101 were challenging and sometimes were quite difficult. Nonetheless, I would not have learned how to grow in academic writing without pushing myself to complete the objective for this course.

How Writing Is An Effective Writing Than A Writer Essay

- ... Whereas my friends gravitated towards using text speech such as ‘ur,’ ‘2,’ and ‘brb.’ Aside from my favorite authors, I learned much of my habit for proper writing from my mother, who had always stressed how important it would become in my professional future. My Experience With Learning Writing Essay

- ... That, I considered to be an example of great writing. The closest thing I can compare my self-teaching method to is the structure of oral tradition that existed before writing. I grew up hearing and reading stories which were told to me in a certain way. So, I created my own stories, like they had done before me. When I had people I knew read my stories, I often liked to sit with them as they did. This was so I could read their faces and attempt to figure out what they thought of it. This is close to how stories were told orally....   [tags: Writing, Writing system, 4th millennium BC]

What Makes Good Writing? Essay

- ... But are there other things to consider. Here is where my research comes. The first person who I interviewed was my father, he mentioned that Dr. David Sapir, who is a linguist, and professor of anthropology at the University of Virginia, once told him that “Languages change, and so do the writing”. This phrase allows me to think that Dr. Sapir was right, that if languages change and writing changes, then why do we stick to the old-school writing rules. My idea is not to make people forget about spelling, grammar or the writing rules that we are taught in school, but not to stick to them....   [tags: Writing, Writer, Alphabet, Paper]
