The use of tobacco has been proven to be very dangerous to health. All though smoking is hazardous to our health, 90% of the populations are smokers. I am proud to say that I am not a smoker. However it is unfortunate that I have lost two great uncles to lung cancer because of tobacco use. According to my grandmother, my uncles started of smoking very young maybe around the age of ten.
Cigarettes are illegal to use for anyone under eighteen. Many people smoke cigarettes to relax, but in fact nicotine increases heart rate and blood pressure. Cigarettes are considered to be gateway drugs. Studies show that more teens are starting to smoke at younger ages than ever before. Most people try out smoking when they are young. Teenagers think smoking is a grownup habit and is often time began as a rebellious act. However some teenagers believe that smoking is an act of independents. Sadly to say it does not and some teenagers find smoking cool. I feel so bad for these teenagers because they too may end up dyeing from tobacco use. It is needless to say that I do not support smoking.
Smoking is dangerous not only to those who smoke but to the non-smokers and the unborn children as well. Cigarette smoking is physically and socially harming. The main particles in cigarettes smoke is known as “tar”. Tar is collected in the branding points of the lungs. The tar contains carcinogenic that increase the risk of lung cancer.
The small particles in cigarette smoke, including carcinogens, irritants, and corrosive chemicals, collect in the small air sacks in the lungs and damage them. When the small partials from the cigarette smoke are absorbed into the blood stream and carried to the other parts of the body, they include different diseases.

Electronic cigarettes are more accessible to kids aged 18 and under. Today in the U.S there is a debate about cigarettes being outlawed. Although people in the U.S believe that e cigs should be outlawed because they are easier to access for kids under the age 18 they are causing kids to get hurt by e cigs; however some people might say E-cigs are enjoyable and are better than regular cigarettes.
According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, it stated that the nicotine in smoking cigarettes can be very dangerous, damaging to the human body. It’s known that smoking can cause chronic lung disease, coronary heart disease and stroke. In addition, smoking also causes cancer of the lungs, larynx, esophagus, mouth, and bladder. Smoking tobacco products is also known to contribute to cancer of cervix, pancreas and kidneys. People that don’t smoke tobacco products can also be harmed by second hand smoke. Women who smoke while pregnant, put their baby at risk of have health problems.
Cigarette is mainly made out of tobacco. Tobacco contains a massive amount of harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, acrolein, nicotine and much more. When people smoke, the chemicals enter their body. Also, the tobacco smoke releases so other people could receive chemicals if close the to the smoker. These harmful chemicals can cause many types of illnesses and diseases, and some of the diseases could often lead to death. Also, cigarette smoking is very addictive because the tobacco contains nicotine which makes the user addicted to smoking. Cigarette smoking is a currently worldwide problem and should be reduced everywhere because it is the number one killer in the world.
Smoking is a lifestyle, a habit, and a trend. Smoking has become a social activity among teens, connecting them through the craving of a smoke. Smoking is seen as seductive and cool in the media and movies which influences teenagers to smoke even more. The World Health Organization has stated that “Tobacco kills around 6 million people each year. More than 5 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while more than 600,000 are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.” As of April 2016, only 7% of teenagers in the U.S. smoke, but it is said that tobacco use will kill 8 million people annually by 2030. 99% of adult smokers start in their years as teenagers. Smoking is an epidemic that has taken control of people’s lives since 1881 and the media since the early 1900s. Smoking currently kills about 440,000 people a year in the U.S. I feel that it is an issue because it is the #1 most preventable way to die, but people still continue to smoke because of how it looks and how they are perceived as a person if they do. The fact that people become addicted to a trend that will attribute to their death for the sake of being thought of as cooler, is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Amongst adults who currently smoke, 68% of them began at age 18 or younger, and 85% at 21 or younger (American Lung Association). And of all those people, 70% say if they were given another chance they would never have picked up that first cigarette (Tobacco Free Maine). Smoking is responsible for 1 and 5 deaths in the united states, and is the number one preventable cause of death (NLH). Smoking burns and there is no doubt about that, but before one picks up that cigarette, understand the negative effects on not only oneself, but others affected by ones poor choices, like second-hand smoke. Because of smoking cigarettes, many types of cancer, decrease of life quality, and negative health effects have become all too common in the world today.

The same survey found that 62.4 percent were allowed to buy cigarettes even when the retailer was aware they were under eighteen. Cigarette smoking is very harmful to both smokers, non- smokers and the environment. People who smoke just show how inconsiderate they are towards others. Even the people who do not smoke in public places are selfish.
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.

The probability of lung cancer forming consists of a smoker’s consumption. The greater the consumption, the risks of cancer increases. In a study of the population on men who smoked, in 1990, it showed a decline in deaths of men who smoked from 880 per million to around 628 per million by 1999. Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive.
