Final Paper Clearly, having a teacher that has family, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a grandparent who makes racial remarks will come out in them whether that is what a person believes or not. Being around someone who is constantly putting people of color down will somewhat make us, as teachers, feel the same ways about those particular students. I do believe however, that instructional decisions will also play a factor. What a person believes does not always mean that he/she is right. If certain people in our lives are making and influencing our decisions, a person is more than likely going to take that information along with them and treat a student in the same manner.

Once again, describing what the word means, engaging in the history of this word to students, and recognizing what it does to people when the word is used are good ways to begin discussions and preparations with students on how to avoid the word. Sometimes, we see though and like I stated before, that some use the term “niggah” as a word that we would mean to mean a friend or someone a person is close with. In a classroom though, teachers should address the two terms and describe the effects they both can have on a person. Either term, it is not a good word and should be banned in all schools. Every teacher needs to work together to get rid of this word so that students can learn and then one day, they can teach their own kids. Showing students the true meaning ensures them that it is not a good thing to say. Why should we go around and say that word to students of color when we know we would not want to be called a cracker? Each race has words that nobody wants to be called.
