A Review of the Literature
Nowadays, the world’s in great threat to global warming. A lot of people or living things, in general, suffer chronologically from the hazardous effects of climate change. Environmental awareness should be part of our lifestyle because without it, the world would not be a good place to live in. To address this problem, green architecture made its mark.
Green Architecture is the practice of creating a structure which would benefit the environment and is ecologically responsible. It lessens the impact by using resources which are energy efficient, less harmful to the environmental health and human well-being. Not only is it advantageous to the environment, but it is also advantageous to the welfare of the society or the people itself.
There are a variety of benefits because of green architecture taking effect. And one is, its contributions to the society. It helps lower the cost of the maintenance and repair of a certain building or structure. It also causes more productivity.
Another is its benefits to the environment. It uses less natural resources such as water, and enhances waste reduction. Green architecture also helps protect the ecosystem by providing a suitable and sustainable design which benefits both the user of the structure and the site it surrounds.
In this paper, I will discuss the concept of green architecture and its purpose or principles. Further elaboration would be done regarding its benefits or impact of this practice to the society and the environment. The disadvantages of green architecture are also discussed after.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a certification program for green buildings with stringent requirements for building energy efficient and environmentally responsible structures. Some requirements of this program include specific building materials, smart grid capable, gray water reclamation systems, green space minimums, high levels of insulation and low thermal transfer glass (US Green Building Council). This sustainable development owned by the US Department of Energy, has also been certified LEED Platinum for New Construction by the U.S. Green Building Council. More than 220,000 square feet of high performance and avant-garde technologies have been combined to produce this sustainable development aimed to be completed by 2011.
In recent development, sustainability has become an integral concern in the performance of architectural principles and technology, in which conscious approaches to energy and ecological conservation involves strategies during the design, construction, and operation of buildings. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Building Sector is the largest contributor to most of the energy consumed: in the United States by itself, buildings consume 47.6% of all energy produced and is responsible for 44.6% of CO2 emissions in 2010 (“Problem…” 1). In terms of sustainability, initial decisions in the design process can significantly help deliver results. Evaluations and explorations through the impact of materials, such as concrete, wood, bricks, masonry, and steel, can help improve reductions in energy through its applicability to a building. While wood and steel are simply identified for their strength, durability, and functionality in structures, accentuating these materials’ embodied energies and recyclability offer a more comprehensive understanding of their overall impact in sustainability — and ultimately reveal how both have advantages and disadvantages depending on the context.
In conclusion, the designers and builders of the tower have an undesirable job: creating a building that is functional, modern, sustainable and unique. At the same time it is honoring the memory of the people that died in and around the buildings that stood there before. While the green sustainable features have been criticized for being too expensive, they will do more than save just water, electricity and emissions. They and the grace of the building will inspire a generation of green and safe skyscrapers for the twenty-first century. This building has become one of the safest, environmentally friendly and expensive ever built, but as critics slate the building for various reasons, one cannot take away the determination through political, social and economic status that designers and workers have created such a beautiful building with great meaning.

A sustainable building, or green building, or green Architecture was fundamentally seen in so many ancient civilizations and traditional architectures. So it is no more a new trend except that in the present it is viewed through a new perspective and with a proper technological support (Pawar Satish, 2014). The ‘Building Sector’ is the major source of demand for energy and materials e.g. steel that also produce by-product greenhouse gases (GHG) which is also prone to rusting and other weather degrading factors. However, a low-cost and renewable resource for permanent construction could be based on ‘Bamboo’. In tropical regions, construction size Bamboo reaches full strength already after 3-4 years. Bamboo can be seen growing on hill sides and along roads and fields it does not encroach on agricultural land either. On the contrary, Bamboo can prevent erosion and even revitalize devastated rain forest soil. Local economy can be promoted at all steps in the supply chain of Bamboo. Bamboo can even be of great help to the whole world by its remarkable CO2 sequestrating capacity. New construction techniques have lead to the development of innovative materials and design concepts. Green buildings are designed, constructed and commissioned to ensure they are healthy for their occupants. Successfully designed green projects can involve an extensive array of factors, ranging from the resourceful use of materials, to careful consideration of function, climate, and location.
Well-recognized cities worldwide have built over the years great buildings with a variety of designs and concepts however consequently too much building has been making grievous decrease on energy efficiency. Now, “Green Architecture” has been popularized and as a result a modicum of energy efficiency has increased and also it has substantiated a new perspective, a new versatile way on architecture.
‘Being Green’ means making decisions that are more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible that can help in protecting the environment and preserve natural resources for present and future generations.
Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objects of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimal waste, and create healthy, productive environments (“Sustainable Design”). Focusing primarily on the sustainable design principles, there are five, including: low-impact materials, energy efficiency, quality and durability, design for reuse and recycling, and renewability. As sustainability appears to become the necessary trend in architecture, the question concerning the cost versus outcome of “going green” really an investment or a waste of time and money comes to mind. With our research provided below, we believe the expenses may truly be with the investment in the end.
Implementation of green concepts has been significant not only in design engineering but also in construction. Therefore the knowledge about green design has been a very important fact for the sustainable development in civil engineering. Concepts such as green buildings, carbon foot print, ecological foot print and LEED rating system have helped to achieve sustainable development for civil engineering
