Amidst the genesis of computer technology, the womb of human ingenuity has delivered the internet, a tool that coexists with human labor to produce efficient and coherent results. Along the way, colleges, secondary schools, and below have implemented its benefits to convey educational material to students in a method under the appellation: digital education, internet learning, e-learning, or, professionally, distance learning. The very notion of education on an online database allows for companies of all shapes and sizes to utilize its potential to provide students the ability to obtain a painless and respected education using the convenience of the internet (Fang). With more freedom in their scheduling, students are able to work more days and acquire enough money to pay off their student loans with much more ease than attending a busy traditional school. In the Ottawa Business Journal, author Kate Chappell’s article, "Post-Secondary Institutions Go Electronic”, observes that with the creation of personalized smart phones, tablets and cloud computing, an infinite array of educational material is now unlocked to students, allowing them to “be able to download course material to their own handheld device” (Chappell). This allows students to access their notes and course material as long as they have an internet connection, giving them a chance to keep their materials intact on a digital database, avoiding reliance on their computer storage to safely secure their files for the remainder of their use. Online education has allowed teachers and students to observe their educational growth and has provided a means to view the same lecture as many times as they please (Afshar). Likewise, students using smartphones are given convenient access to any distance learning course, or materials important to it, simply by downloading an application from the “app store” or visiting a mobile web page to access home/classwork and other elements important to succeeding the class. Although technology, in general, is very prone to failure, public locations like local libraries offer free Wi-Fi connections and computer usage, giving a myriad of opportunities for students to complete their digital courses.
