Our generation was raised through the new culture known as ‘hookup culture’ and has fully embraced it. Sex has seemingly lost much of its sacredness and the taboo around pre-marital sex is dwindling as well. The article for which I am analyzing is a book summary of Hooked: New Science on How Casual Sex is Affecting Our Children by Joe McIlhaney and Freda McKissic. The purpose of the book is to give the scientific reasoning on why engaging in pre-marital sex is harmful to adolescents. It explores the neuroscience behind the act, and how people as a whole are effected by engaging in sexual activity. By providing statistics, emotionally moving testimonies, and doctor’s research they gain a lot of credibility, which strengthens their claim that it is healthier for young adults to abstain from sex rather than partake in any sort.
The book has very strong credibility, which appeals to ethos, because of where the information is being drawn from. The authors, Joe McIlhaney and Freda McKissic, are obstetrician-gynecologists and have both served on the HIV/AIDS Presidential Advisory Council. They both offer much more experience in the field such that, Dr. McIlhaney also was the “founder and chairman of The Medical Institute for Sexual Health” (Olivier). This builds their credibility because the job of a gynecologist is to study the human body and in particular how women can keep a healthy reproductive system. A gynecologists job, as well as all the other positions they have held, is to educate others on how to maintain good sexual health. Since the book is trying to persuade the reader that the way to obtain the best sexual health is to abstain from pre-marital sex it is widely backed up because of the titles they have earned. Many other ...

...is isn’t the case for Jordi. She will never be able to fully accept love because of that one fateful night 15 years ago. The goal, of this real confession, is to show readers what the extreme cases of what premarital sex will can have on you.
Joe McIlhaney and Freda McKissic do a phenomenal job at building an argument on why adolescents should wait to engage in sexual activities. Both authors have been gynecologists for years and served on many other boards relating to sexual health. They give very valuable information and facts that everyone should consider before the next time they are ready to have casual sex. I feel personally persuaded by the article because it gave a hard cut, factual reason on why abstinence is a good way to keep yourself in good health. They clearly use many rhetorical tools to help build their case, and it led to an overall effective book.

Essay about The Issue Of Sex And. Joe As A Means Of Escape

- Rosamund is terrified of sex and uses both Roger and Joe as a means of escape. She ends up having sex with a man she thought might be bisexual and ends up getting pregnant. Rosamund has money and can afford an abortion but she chooses an impractical way to kill her fetus. It makes you question whether or not she ever wanted to kill the baby. A bottle of gin doesn’t seem like a reasonable method. She states she doesn’t like being alone. By having a child she will always be with someone. “My sister has babies, nice babies, and seemed to like them […] there was no reason why I shouldn’t have one either, it would serve me right, I thought, for having been born a woman in the first place” (pg.17)...   [tags: Pregnancy, Fetus, Abortion, Birth control]

Morality of Sex Essay

- One of the greatest issues that people struggle with is the morality of sex in different situations. Perhaps we worry about it so much because it is such an intimate and significant event. From a purely biological standpoint, sexual intercourse is the means for what might be considered the most important biological function of humans – reproduction, the continuation of our species. Sex For Sale Essay

- I have often wondered what the problem with prostitution was; the act of selling sex is between the two participating in the act. I have heard many times how it hurts families, being the wives and children. Would it be better if it was free sex with another person where there were feelings involved. It seems to me, if a man or woman goes elsewhere in search of sex with no feeling that is better than a co-worker or other. Furthermore, many wants and needs are fulfilled throughout life; cars are bought that families cannot afford even homes and other indulgences why not sex....   [tags: selling sex, prostitution, regulations]
