How are we making schools safe?

Walking into school being scared of what might happen is something no student should need to think about. The things some students have to see is unthinkable. Seeing your best friend or teach die can scar a child forever. Unfortunately many students witness a school shooting and it can never leave their minds. Many students and the community do not have a sense of protection due to the lack of policies that are in place or simply because many policies are not being followed. Because of this students are stepping up. They are figuring out ways to keep themselves and their peers safe. If there is policies in place then why are some schools not following them? Why do the students have to think of plans that is the administrations job? Many reasons are unclear about why school shootings even takes place but there is examples and research to give a little insight about who and why. Past school shootings has required many new policies, most of them are not being followed because lack of funds and laziness, why are these schools not being proactive by preparing for future shootings, not being checked up on to ensure policies are being followed and how can they be prevented. Everyone is aware of a school shooting when it occurs. It does not matter how far it might have happened, the local news will be sure to report every available detail. People remember what a worldwide problem this is and they immediately want to change things. After months go by they tend to forget and nothing gets fixed. Children’s safety should be the most important thing to the administration. It will save lives and also make the students feel safer. No parent wants their children to feel uncomfortable at school. To make this possible schools need to prepare for anything that might occur, follow new policies, help students that are victims of bullying, and focusing on things that truly matter to keeping their students safe.
