The 24-hour food diary that I kept was for Tuesday, September 27, 2016. This was a day that I did not work. For breakfast at 7:49 AM, at home, I had dark roast coffee (12 fl oz.), with half and half (1tbsp) and no calorie sweetener (1 packet) as well as with oatmeal (½ cup dry), which I made with water (1 cup). Once ready, I added brown sugar (1tsp) and raisins (¼ cup) to my oatmeal. This is my usual breakfast, whether I have work or not. I like to eat oatmeal in the morning because it is simple to prepare, it fills me up and keeps me feeling full throughout the morning. It was also a very hot day and a smoothie sounded delicious. Around 2:30 PM, at home, I decided to make a salad, which was split three ways between my mother, my sister and myself. It consisted of spinach (3 cups), shredded chicken (1 ½ cups), dried cranberries (¼ cup), walnut pieces (¼ cup), fat-free feta cheese (1.5 oz) and lite raspberry vinaigrette (6 tbsp). Again since it was a hot day, I made a salad because it was quick, healthy, and a light meal that would give me some substance and keep me full until dinner time. My mother and I like to prepare this meal pretty regularly because it is easy to make. It is also one of the healthier meals that my family likes and eats. At 8:15 PM, at home, I had caramel praline crunch frozen yogurt (½ cup ). I have a big sweet tooth so later in the evenings I like to have some frozen yogurt or ice cream while I watch a program on the television.

My eating habits did not originate in early childhood. My parents never enforced strict rules about eating a certain amount of meat or vegetables for every meal. For the most part, I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted, when I wanted. During my childhood, when my parents would make dinner at home, they would usually make a meal that consisted of meat with a vegetable or two; something that some would consider well-balanced. However, I would not always eat what they made. I was what most people would call "a picky eater." So, instead of forcing me to eat certain foods, my parents would accommodate me and, in addition to making their food, would prepare craft macaroni and cheese for me almost daily.
