Homicide/Firearms/Robbery
In Cold Blood/Red Handed The First 48 Hours video that I have chosen is “In Cold Blood” and “Red Handed.” Because I have chosen this video I decided to do my topic on homicide, firearms, and robbery. I will discuss each one of these. I then will tell how it played a role in the video. I then will explain how it all comes together to help solve the crime. So let’s get started. First is homicide. What does homicide mean? Homicide is the killing of a person (human being). Among homicides are murder and manslaughter, but not all homicides are a crime. A non-criminal homicide includes self-defense, a hunting accident or car wreck (can’t be reckless driving). Suicide is a homicide, but in most cases there is no one to

According to my school book (Crime Scene Investigation) there are two categories of firearms. These categories are handguns and long guns. Handguns are usually the gun of choice for a crime. These guns usually only take one hand to hold; thus making it the gun of choice for a crime. Pistols and revolvers are handguns. These handguns are easy to conceal due to them being small. Ammunition is pretty easy to get for a hand gun. The most common among long guns are shotguns and rifles. Machine guns and other weapons that take two hands and the use of a person’s shoulder are also classified under long guns. With handguns and long guns an important part are the bullets. There are many types of bullets. (The following is a list of different types of bullets: wade-cutter, semi-wad-cutter, full-metal jacket, semi-jacketed, soft-point, hollow-point, Teflon-coated, and frangible bullets and each has a particular use.) (Jacqueline T. Fish, 2014) Projectile, powder, primer, and cartridge or shell case are the main components for all types of cartridge ammunition. In the First 48 Hours “Red Handed” the detectives found shell casings from the bullets at the door where Mr. Montoya had been shot and also in the subject’s vehicle. Mr. Montoya’s son-in-law saw the vehicle take off and he got in his vehicle and took after the subject’s. The subjects were shooting at the son-in-law’s vehicle while he was chasing after them. The subject’s ended up crashing into a …show more content…
What is robbery? (Robbery is the act or an instance of unlawfully taking the property of another by the use of violence or intimidation.) (Farlex, 2009) In the First 48 Hours video “In Cold Blood” I mention earlier that the police found Herbert Abraham dead, with his hands and his feet tied together and a tie around his neck. When the police started to look for clues as to what had happen, they saw that his wallet was empty and his stuff had been gone through. The detective started asking questions to the neighbors. One neighbor said that there was a white man that was maybe in his 30’s asking about Abraham’s apartment. The neighbor said the man looked harmless and he pointed him in the right direction. A different neighbor pointed out that Mr. Abraham’s car was missing, but a strange car had been there for a few days. When the detectives got the news about the car it was the break they needed. The car had also been stolen as well. So the detectives went back to that crime scene to talk to those victims. The detectives got their big break when a cop car found Mr. Abraham’s car along with the person committing a crime at the same time. The detectives went to interview their suspect, Roger Tucker. Before the detectives went to see Tucker, they stopped by Mr. Abraham’s neighbor to see if he could pick Tucker out of a photo lineup, and the neighbor did. To sum up this video Roger Tucker was subsequently convicted of aggravated murder and was sentenced to

On February 23, 1993, James Swann began his attacks on Washington, D.C area. His first attack occurred on Holmead Place NW. He stuck his 20 gauge shotgun out of the driver side window and started to shoot at a woman walking home. She escaped without being shot. The same night about 15 minutes later on 1400 block of Oak Street NW, a 22 year old man was shot in the face and was partially blinded. His shooting was dismissed because of objectivity. On February 26, 1993, three days following the first shooting a man burst in a barbershop and murdered a customer with his shotgun. This was James Swann’s first slaying. Once again, police brushed the case off assuming it was drug related. James too a very brief rest from his crimes, however, on March 4, 1993, he returned to Washington and his victim was a 43 year old man walking down the street. He was shot in the head, but to be consistent the police assumed it was drug related. Police did not take the previous shootings serious until the drive by shootings continued in an upscale neighborhood in Mount Pleas...
John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo are two murderers that are known as the Beltway Sniper. Muhammad and Malvo killings are known to be random, which categorizes their killings as a killing spree. During the duration of their killing spree, they caused major panic throughout the United States. This notorious shootings that terrorized the United States took place in 2002. The shootings ended up taking the lives of 10 individuals and injuring 3 others (Blades, 2005, para.1). The shooting at the time it took place is considered unique because their weapon of choice to carry out their plan was a sniper rifle. What is unique about this case is that investigators and criminal theorist
The first example of a case that was solved using ballistics is the case of Manuel Rojas versus the death of Valentina Giles Rogue. In this case Valentina was roughly twenty years old and she was at her apartment, she had the simple desire for peace and quiet nevertheless there was noise coming from outside her apartment. There were some drug dealers loitering outside her apartment that was located in Santa Ana and because she spoke to them she ended up getting shot in the chest at a close range. Valentina still continued to climb up her stairs with the wound and died in front of her twenty-four year old son and his wife. The Orange County were unable to link the shooter m. In 2009 the investigators of the case asked Edward for help to link the shooter to the scene. With the help of the company's newly developed ballistics analysis system called IBIS BULLETTRAX-3D the investigators were able to links Manuel Rojas to the murder of Valentina (Forensic technology 2016). The second case example is a case where a man fired a gun eight times into the air in North Charleston, South Carolina in March of 2007. The shell casing were collected and entered into National integrated ballistic information network (NIBIN). On July of 2007 a man shot three people in their apartment so there were no eye witnesses and the investigation did not find a gun. Although

I began my research with a domestic murder mindset. During my research I found the domestic cases a lot more appealing than murders that resulted from riots or race. For class last week, we read “I loved Joe, but I had to Shoot Him” which definitely confirmed my interest in the topic. During class, however, we discussed how the motive of a wife murdering her husband was different based on their race. This thought led me to want to study a compare and contrast of a woman's race and murder motive. Then, I thought about returning to the case of “1912 Husband Set on Fire,” but found that “1889: Murder- Suicide” was the better choice.
Murderers and Serial Killers in the Chicago Area. A notorious murderer or serial killer is the typical next door neighbor one would hardly associate with a serious crime: an educated psychopath with little regard for life. Most of them commit murder for some misplaced psychological benefit. Their actions border on insanity, as some commit theft by stealing their victims’ belongings and committing rapes, an indication of a need for financial gain or a craving for distorted sexual desires.
Violence related to guns is a prominent issue in America. Guns are a means to an end; meaning guns have played a strong role in suicides, murders, and injuries. In the past decade there has been an average of 400-500 thousand incidents of firearms per year (Gun Violence). The number of injured people from firearm incidents in the United States per year for the past decade is 400-600 thousand people (Gun Violence). These statistics are absolutely shocking to anyone. The amount of violence and crime that comes from guns is enormous. It is imperative that proper gun control is put into place by means of background checks and proper training. It can almost be certain that the number of incidents of accidental discharges from children and the number of victims affected by gun crimes in general can be highly reduced.
Parole (early release from prison) is often referred to as the back door to the US corrections system. The concept of parole dates back to the establishment of the Elmira Reformatory. The goal of the Elmira Reformatory was to rehabilitate and reform the criminal instead of following the traditional method of silence, obedience, and labor. Parole was originally set up to encourage prisoners to do well, keep their noses clean, and become model prisoners. Once a prisoner had shown rehabilitation and reform they were released prior to the execution of their full sentence.
What is homicide and what are homicidal offenses? Homicide has been defined as the taking of the life of one human being by another. Homicidal offenses vary by degrees of the offense, penalties, and manor in which the offense occurred. These offenses include: First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Murder, Felony, Justifiable and Excusable Homicide. These are some of the main topics and can be broken down into subcategories within and amongst themselves. Some of the earliest recorded cases of murder date back to the 12th century with the King’s Bench or Queen’s Court in England; we will cover some of the earliest establishments of these laws and/or cases in history.

The first part of Box 1.1 like the shows in each of their episodes breaks down all the individual actions that make up the whole of victimology. Creating a timeline from the last known place the victim was seen and the last person seen or known to be with the victim is crucial to identify to be able to start at that point and proceed to present where they are now standing. Photographers are called in to memorialize the scene such as the victim, their positioning and the position of items around them. They take pictures of possible blood spatter and its patterns on walls, floors and baseboards. Pictures are taken of bullet holes and other disorder found in the home or area they are in. Others are trying to find and collect the possible weapon or weapons used. If a weapon or manner of death are not readily identifiable the coroner will be able to aid them in this search by hopefully being able to provide further details later on.
In this essay, I will describe the elements of a criminal act, address the law of factual impossibility, the law of legal impossibility, and distinguish whether the alleged crime in the scenario is a complete but imperfect attempt or an incomplete attempt. I will address the ethical or moralistic concerns associated with allowing a criminal defendant to avoid criminal responsibility by successfully asserting a legal defense such as impossibility. The court was clearly wrong to dismiss the charge against Jack of attempted murder of Bert.
Many of us enjoy watching crime scene investigation shows, but in the criminal justice system forensic investigation is an essential field that requires upright observations and a prodigious interpretation. Under forensics, it is difficult to blame someone without scientific data. For that reason, Larry K. Gaines author of the textbook Criminal Justice in Action explains the importance of Blood Spatter Analysis. Specialist can learn a great deal about violent crime by examining where blood landed at the scene, the size and consistency of drops, and the pattern of blood spatter (Gaines, 2011). Consequently, an article of the Blood Spatter Analysis will be used to explain the research methodology the author uses to proceed certain investigations.
Much like in Toms case, most investigations start with a crime having been committed. Forensic ballistics and firearm investigation start when there are bullets, cartridges, a weapon, or any combination of the above found at a crime scene. With the evidence, a crime lab can search for clues on these items that could lead to a suspect or possibly prove that the items were used in the crime. By comparing the markings on bullets or cartridges found at the scene with those fired from a suspect’s weapon, a ballistics expert can often determine if the rounds came from the same weapon. Just the act of cycling a cartridge through a weapon without firing it can leave permanent scratches in the case that are unique to the weapon.
