I started homeschooling when I was in the 4th grade. I had been public school before my mom decided to take me out. At the time public schools in Memphis had a program called “No child Left Behind”. Sadly I was the child that got left behind due to me being very ill. In the early semester of my 4th grade year I was hospitalized with an enlarged spleen and I was in the hospital for weeks. When I finally was able to go back to school my teacher did not help me get back on track. The teacher was even considering not letting me proceed to the next grade. So that was the day my mom decided her baby “Me” was not going to suffer in public schools any longer. It was a big change for me. Adjusting to being at home all the time from being in a public school environment was definitely different. I missed being around friends and going to music class.
Homeschooling’s a better environment for children because kids in public school are oppressed. Proponents of home schooling believe that children thrive better in a safe, comfortable environment with which they are familiar. Ironically, so do advocates of public schooling (Home schooling is growing ever faster). Being home-schooled students do not have to worry whether they are wearing the right clothes, the right shoes, or are shopping at the right stores to fit in. Since there are usually no other children around unless the child has more siblings. Home schooled children learn in a relatively calm, peaceful environment, and more importantly students usually have the opportunity to work at their own pace and in their own style. When I started college fall of 2015 I cannot lie I was pretty much scared. It had been a while since I actually had to sit in classroom with a bunch of people I did not know. Thankfully my first day breezed by college seemed to not be as bad as I thought it would be. I believe being homeschooled did not make me anti-social it actually prepared me mentally for college. Not being around people all the time most of my life gave me some self-control. This paper may seem a little bias because I am taking the side of homeschool. Nevertheless, I believe that the public school system has some good qualities then there is bad ones at the same time. I do not regret being homeschooled at all.
