Homeschooling: A Way for All Children to Succeed

Homeschooling has been the major form of education for thousands of years, but throughout the past several decades, there has been a significant alteration in the main method of schooling. What is now referred to as “traditional schooling” is the accepted method of having dozens of children in a public or private school setting for 6-8 hours, and coming home to an overload of extracurricular activities, as well as a surplus of homework. Although traditional schools have become more popular, many students and parents complain about the U.S. education system and its techniques. The promising alternative to traditional schooling is homeschooling, but there is a huge controversy concerning the success of homeschooling. In order to have an opportunity for students to focus on individual interests, and earn higher SAT scores and college GPAs, homeschooling is the most beneficial system of education.

Many parents throughout the United States are concerned with their child’s ability to remain on task during school, but are afraid to homeschool their children if they believe they don’t have a sufficient education. According to an educational psychologist, children get their values from whomever they spend a majority of their time with. For example, most parents do not want their children getting caught up in the materialistic world. It is difficult for many students in public schools to focus on their academics with a wide variety of distractions; therefore, millions of students in the United States are failing classes, and this lack of progression and success is causing others to get by with a minimum amount of effort (“Parents on the Pros and Cons of Homeschooling”).
