Her stomach grumbled loudly as she sat in her worn, tattered rags reeking like she'd spent her last few weeks in a dumpster. That wouldn't be wrong, but hardly anyone threw a second glance her way. Her level of poverty was obvious to anyone who had eyes; her teeth yellow from smoking marijuana, her face fixed into a permanent scowl, and the bruises and scars the only visible remnant from the beating she endured a few hours ago. When the hot dog cart rolled by, she quickly slipped one out, feeling the guilt sting her soul. She knew it was wrong, but what other choice did she have? She's surely not alone. A very similar story is shared by millions across the world. Poverty is the leading issue in the the world today, as it leads to an increased crime rate, drug abuse and depression.
She and many others like her receive no help, no aid and that's why they are driven to crime. Their poor childhood leads them to believe that stealing, fighting and abuse are the only option.
