Today homelessness is a problem in America and always has been an issue. In the United States homelessness has been documented since 1640 and has been growing rapidly since then. There are nearly 630,000 people that are homeless, that is about the size of Boston! Some people or families that become homeless are due to natural disasters such as tornados, hurricanes, and other related disasters. Some people or families also become homeless due to a loss of a family member, house fires, or getting laid off from a job. These are everyday people that once had a house to go home to every night and a warm place to sleep. Just imagine one day losing everything and having no place to sleep or call home. So many things can be done to help out: recycling can help the environment and the money can be donated to a shelter or soup kitchen that helps the homeless. There are stores out there that donate their profits to charity, like the online store KNO clothing. KNO clothing takes 50% of their profit and gives it to homeless people to help them get back on their feet.
In the 1640’s homelessness was considered a character flaw. If you were homeless in the 1600’s a person or family would come into the town and prove their worth to the community. If they could not prove their worth they would move on to the next town. Homelessness is a social issue with many causes, it still involves some of the issues from the 1600’s. Some causes of homelessness were due to industrialization, wars, disasters, medical problems, or a family member’s death. In the 1820’s – 1830’s the Industrial Revolution kicked off and people began to move from the farm to the city to search for jobs. Philadelphia and New York had many people walking the streets c...

All we need is one small step at a time and then the ball will start rolling and we will actually get to see the economy get better, see less people on the streets and not living in one bed room hotels with their families. Our community needs our help and we all know we can provide that help. All I ask of you is to please help out, These kids have a life that i wouldn’t want to go threw myself, I volunteer as much as possible because I have got to sit down with them and talk about their life, but yet they still manage to have a smile on their face with the little things that have. You will never regret helping out with the kids or families, when you see their face you will never forget how you felt and what little things you can do to make a family and their kids happy.
