Home is not a place for me, it 's a person and a feeling. It 's the moment of silence before explosive laughter and the breathy seconds after making a comment that maybe shouldn 't have been said. Home for me is my best friend, Ethan Clinger. Ethan is the kind of boy who drives at forty-five on country roads, despite the slightly exasperated sounds of passengers. He is the type of person whose opinions of people can change at the drop of a hat. Ethan is the man who will listen to you even when you don’t want to talk, even when you just want to sit and sulk. He’ll just talk until he makes you laugh, even if you started in tears. He is able to cheer up the most upset of patreons, and sympathizes with a wonderful strength. His beliefs are ingrained …show more content…
He is a Jack-in-the-Box full of humor, and he never fails to entertain simply by being amused. First his eyes light up as the joke connects in his brain. Then, his mouth gets bigger and bigger until in a thunderclap of humor, his joy explodes out of him and he doubles, seizing with giggles. He is a whirlwind of passion trying to contain the hurricane of his personality. He never seems to quite succeed, especially when he certainly shouldn’t laugh. In fancy restaurants or in solemn situations, his laugh takes a different path to escape his body. His form still doubles up, shaking in the aftermath of his jocosity. Choking out in a sort of snort that rocks his shoulders and makes him cover his mouth. My favorite laugh to hear, however, is the one that breaks free when I make a particularly horrendous joke. His face twists up and he scowls a little bit, but the scowl is quickly replaced by a twitching smile that erupts into a laugh. This laugh starts heavy and sarcastic, but quickly builds up to a wheezing giggle of mirth that climbs higher and higher; as if up a mountain to get the levity in the terrible

What is home? Home does not necessarily have to be a specific place it could also be a place that you feel safe or comfortable in. From the early 1500s to the late 1900s, Britain used its superior naval, technological, and economic power to colonize and control territories worldwide which affected how most of these people's thoughts on what home is. In “Back to My Own Country” this story is about a girl that moved to london at a young age and was forced to change her morals and beliefs to try and seem less than an outsider to the community. In Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the main characters, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy struggle for power over the ward. Throughout the novel, McMurphy grew from questioning rules to disobeying them completely. In comparison, Nurse Ratched went from verbally emasculating the inmates to physically traumatizing them and destroying their self-esteem. At various moments within the novel, McMurphy has more power, and during others Nurse Ratched seems victorious. McMurphy gains control by appealing to the ward’s inmates with confidence and hope, while Nurse Ratched gains control by emasculating them, and making them feel self conscious. Furthermore, McMurphy has the support of his fellow inmates, while Nurse Ratched uses the rules of the ward, and the government to her advantage. Although Nurse Ratched lobotomizes McMurphy, his beliefs and influence carries on within the rest of the patients. Therefore, this novel suggests that despite Nurse Ratched’s power over the ward, McMurphy’s Impact lives on.

On their own, the "Home." message might lead people to think they just love their homes. However, when they are put together, it's clear that their home is actually where their heart is. It's so sweet and special!
Holden is desperate to connect with people. This is shown through him trying to connect with random people and always wanting to call people up. Holden tries to connect with many strangers including; Mrs. Morrow, The first cab driver and Sunny. When talking to Mrs. Morrow, he lies about Ernest just so he can keep the conversation going. “He adapts himself very well to things. He really does. I mean he really knows how to adapt himself.” “Do you think so she asked. She sounded interested as hell”(55). Holden says this to get her really interested and talk to him more. When Holden calls for a cab to go to his Hotel, he tries to socialize with and he asks if he wants to order a cocktail. “Well take me to Edmont then” I said. “Would you care to stop on the way and join me for
In his song “House by the Sea”, Pål Moddi Knutsen utilizes figurative devices throughout his song. In the first line of the song, he sings, “They say home is the place where your heart is” (Moddi). The metaphor tells the listener how some people see home as a place in which is the center of a person and how a person's home is in a sense apart of them like how a heart is apart of them. This figurative device puts an idea of what a home can mean to some people and helps the listeners to get a sense of what Moddi hears that people's idea of home is. In addition, he sings, “So it's not really as if i am leaving / It’s more like something pulling me” (Moddi). The simile compares the differences between leaving and how he feels like something is
In the book This Boy’s Life the theme of escape is constantly present. Toby’s childhood is one of constantly moving from city to city. All of this moving has a feeling of escape or running away from something, usually a man in Rosemary’s life. As a result, escaping is something that Toby is very accustomed too, and he believes that escaping is always the answer rather than dealing with problems face to face.
From the Harry Potter series to the television program Gossip Girl, stories contain characters whose actions are immoral, yet readers and viewers develop sympathy for them due to their presentation. Likewise, in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Grandpa’s character is portrayed as immoral. The reader witnesses Grandpa marry a woman for a dishonest reason and then abandon her and his unborn child. However, as the story progresses, the reader discovers Grandpa’s backstory and can sympathize with him. The reader learns the rationales behind his unethical behaviors and Grandpa becomes a sympathetic character. The method Jonathan Safran Foer uses to present Grandpa forms him into a dynamic character about whom the reader’s opinion shifts over the course of the novel.
It is home in the sense that I’m up at the crack of dawn with butterflies in my stomach nervous for the day ahead. It is the place that
Holden never learnt how to calculate his actions. In the beginning, He makes innumerable faulty judgments and his immature character is an ongoing childish behavior during this novel. He is interpreted as a juvenile character due to his nearly persistent childish conduct. He tends to avoid the real world by living an imaginative life, which always makes him fall into troubled waters. Due to his lack of maturity, in this novel, we tend to find Holden in sticky situations that aren’t always easy to get out of. In chapter 13, Holden invited a prostitute up to his room so he can experience some type of action (98). Little did he know, he isn’t very experience with sex but still happens to invite her up. The idea of it was what he wanted, but as
Home is a concept that many consider to be a tangible place and people's perspectives of what home is to them varies from person to person. Whether it be a small apart complex to a seven room mansion, the general concept remains the same: that Home is where the heart is. The sentimental value tied to a childhood home can have a tremendous impact on a person’s identity and their overall sense of being. In Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake, Lahiri illustrates the concept of home through Ashima, who eventually learns that home is not really a physical destinations; it is when where she is surrounded by the people that she loves.
