The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces whose sole purpose is to provide an assault force from the sea and to be the initial strike force of the United States Military. The USMC is currently under the Department of the Navy but is recognized as its own branch of the military. The USMC has served in every major war since the Revolutionary War in 1775. Courage, which helps strengthen a Marine physically, mentally, and morally, helps to guide a Marine though challenges and overcoming their deepest darkest fears. It is the backbone of the USMC and enables a Marine to do what they know is right and being able to make decisions that not everyone can make under stress. Commitment, which is the spirit and determination that the USMC is known for, is the ultimate discipline of individuals in the Corps. It is what drives and inspires a Marine to be faithful to his beloved Corps and country.
