The history of technology begins two and a half million years ago with the stone age. Flint was split and sharpened to be used as a tool. Within a hundreds of thousands of years these stone tools became specialized for boring, scraping, cutting and sharp points. Five hundred thousand years ago in China, man discovers fire. The Neolithic period 8000BC of the Stone age brought about many new technologies. These technologies are pottery, textiles, bricks made in Jericho made of clay or mud and sun dried, the spinning spindle which brought about knitting. Around 6500BC, man discovers the kiln and more uses for fire. The loom is built in 6000BC along with weaving. In 4000BC, the first miners began mining copper in the Balkans and at this time the yoke and harness was invented, along with smelting and casting. In Sinai peninsula 3800BC, copper was being mined and was smelted. 3000BC brought forth quite few important inventions such as the wheel in Europe ,potter's wheel in Mesopotamia, plough along with draught animals in Egypt and Mesopotamia. 2800BC silk is woven in China and in 2500 BC cotton is grown and woven in Indus Valley and later in Peru.(N/A,N/a, p1) The Bronze age starts about 2700BC when bronze is discovered. 2400BC in Babylonia the first calculator the abacus is invented.(N/A,N/a, p1) The Iron age starts about 1200BC ends around 587Bc and in this period the use of iron was used to make tools and weapons.(N/A/N/A) 350BC is the start of mechanical gearing like the pulley, lever and screw developed by the Greeks and/or the Egyptians. 300BC the binary number system is invented by Pingala. 87BC in Rhodes the Antikythera Mechanism is invented to track stars movement. c.3000 B.C.E. was the beginnings of Bronze Age- early civilizations. Bronze Age starts at different areas in different time periods. It was first found in near Middle East. Historians do not know where or how bronze was first discovered. This event demonstrates KC 1.1: I.B because during this period materials were developed among Europe (E), East Asia (EAa), and Middle East (ME). It illustrates material wealth, creation, expansion and interaction of economic system.
The Bronze Age in Greece was a period of time in which their civilization flourished. They were a main power at the time and seemed to have everything they wanted in the palm of their hands. Many other civilizations have a period of time also known as the Bronze Age, however, the bronze age of Greece is widely known to be the most prolific and dominant in history. The Greece Bronze Age is estimated to have lasted from between 8th to 6th century BC to about 146BC. Nobody knows for sure the exact time period in which it began and ended. However, these are the dates that are most widely known to be accurate. No other civilization has been able to remain a dominant world power longer than this time period, which is why this is such an incredible period of history.
Our society takes things for granted that the ancient civilizations originally invented. In southwestern Asia around 3500 B.C. the first River Valley Civilizations began. These early civilizations invented many things. The early River Valley Civilizations of Mesopotamia made key contributions to future societies. Two contributions from the Mesopotamian Civilization were the invention of cuneiform and Hammurabi’s Code.
The Norse “Metallic Ages,” so called because they date the time periods when the Norse people are recorded to have been working with metals such as copper, bronze, and iron.
