As many car companies compete today, there is always a reason behind it all. If the purpose of competition is for money making for example, than the better the car for the common people, the better. As those companies balance between the people’s needs, there also comes a place for sport cars. So this dates back to 1955, where The Prince Motor Company,(later known as Nissan since 1967), first brought the car into production. The skyline’s performance, styling, and reputation contributed to the great impact of race cars today. Coming from scratch, the car’s performance was ideal for the racing enthusiast.
Since the birth of the ALSI- 1 series Skyline in 1957, the car reached spectacular amounts of credit. With the manufacturers already looking into the next one year after year, they left the first one with an inline 4 engine producing roughly 60 horsepower. This cost efficient production vechicle caught many people by surprise. With just a few years later, the ALSI- 2 was born with just minor revisions. The engine was juiced up to 70 horsepower and the front grille changed along with the lights. This rapid growth of the car fascinated many car freaks. This just kept adding on excitement for the future line of the Skyline. With the support of Michelotti, Nissan came out with a limited edition Skyline which was recalled because the price skyrocketed and no one could afford it. This hyped up the company to later produce the same car at an affordable rate. In which, the performance suffered a drop from 94 horsepower to 70. ...ndary Nurburgring, in under eight minutes. Bringing the GT-R to the movies also inspire many young enthusiasts to race themselves. MAny records have been broken and car tuners made the most out of it. The drag strip brought the GT-R justice. Having Bugatti’s slogan “the world's fastest car” was just a sign for some tuned GT-R’s. The video of a tuned R34 racing a million dollar Bugatti Veyron leaves Bugatti back at the drawing board. This marvel brought many people together to the racing community.

Stock car racing has evolved a great amount since 1920’s when racing first started. The cause of racing was because of the Prohibition. The 18th amendment banned the production and possession of alcohol. So people had to make their own liquor, called moonshine. In order to make money from liquor, part of the job was to deliver it to their customers, but with the law enforcements trying to obey the new law, Moonshiners had to make their runs at night. They also had to use vehicles that would blend in, and would not create too much attention, but those vehicles couldn’t out run the cops, so they decided to make some slight modifications to them. After moonshiners made these slight modifications, they were able to run 120 mph on a dirt road without using headlights. Soon after, Moonshiners started to race each other on the weekends.
In conclusion, from the early 1950's and 1960's there has been two cars that have taken the American people by storm, the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang. Both rivals have tried from day one to out do and out perform each other to bet the first to develop an affordable sports car that handles and performs like a $90,000 dollar muscle car. Each in its own right have established itself on the car market place with such creations by Ford for its 590-HP Super Stallion and Chevrolet for its 600-HP Big Block Camaro. The Camaro and Mustang have been looked at as the "First true American sports cars." They are arguably the two most rivaled sports cars of yesteryear and today. Entering the 1950s, no corporation even came close to General Motors in its size, or it's profits. GM was twice as big as the second biggest company in the world, Standard Oil of New Jersey (father of today's Exxon Mobil), and had a vast diversity of businesses ranging from home appliances to providing insurance and building Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevys, GMCs, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs and trains. It was so big that it made more than half the cars sold in the United States and the U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust division was threatening to break it up(to prevent Monopolies, Like how Standard oil was broken up). In the 21st century, it's almost hard to imagine how powerful GM was in the 50s and 60s. Sports cars from Europe were getting popular, because of servicemen coming back from WWII, and wanted sports cars, but American Automakers didn't make sports cars, so they would either buy foreign, or go without. A man named McLean would still try to make a low priced sports car. But it didn't work. The idea of a car coming from GM that could compete with Jaguar, MG or Triumph was pretty much considered stupid and insane. C1:Generation: Bad but valuable. Just 300 Corvettes were made in 1953. Each of these first-year Corvettes was a white roadster with red interior. The Corvette was made of fiberglass for light weight, but the first cars were made with a really weak, (and kind of pathetic for a “sports car”) 150 horsepower 6-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. Ask any ten enthusiasts what two cars epitomize the concept of an automotive rivalry and at least nine of them will instantly conclude the Chevrolet or Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang, two cars that make up part of a small automotive segment known as Pony Cars. These fire-breathing leviathans of the street snarl with guttural reverberations boastfully announcing their presence with the mere turn of key. For nearly five decades, these mechanical beasts have captured the imagination of the American driver and ignited the most contentious debate in automotive history: Which car reigns supreme? Muscle car buffs waste no time quoting sales figures, vehicle performance, track times, or even mundane statistics like vehicle dimensions or available colors to simply justify their support for one model over the other. As this debate rages on, the makers of these brutes fan the flames through targeted marketing strategies, consumer promotions, pricing strategies, and creative advertising all in effort to win an automotive war the likes of which have never been seen or fought before (Davenport, 2013).

The designers did mock-ups of many different models, including a two-seat roadster, a fastback, and a station wagon. GM was trying to keep the cost as low as possible, however, to compete with the Mustang, and decided tostick with just two models, a coupe and a convertible.
Some say that automotive racing began when the second car was built. For over a hundred years, competition has driven innovation in the car industry, thus the industry maxim “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.” NASCAR and drag racing contributed greatly to muscle cars’ success. Muscle cars were born from these competitions as factory made race cars. Because of this, the muscle car quickly moved from a low quantity specialty item to the image of the American automotive scene. Each brand had to have one and each one needed better performance and personality than the next. The Golden Age began in the 1960s with the introduction of more performance models such as the Chevy SS Impala and the Ford Galaxy Starliner (Auto Editors).
In order to have a fast and efficient car all these things I have discussed need to be taken into consideration. A fast car should be designed with aerodynamic surfaces for a balance of maximum production of downforce and minimum drag creating surfaces. It should have as small an engine as possible to reduce mass and reduce the necessary size of the frontal area, but a large enough engine to be able to produce enough horsepower to be able to create more force than the resistance the car faces to accelerate and enough to balance with those forces at high speeds. The tires should be wide enough for fast acceleration and good cornering but not so wide it creates large amounts of rolling resistance. Your overall best example of such a car would be formula one races or Indy cars because they have to have good handling, fast acceleration and reach and maintain high speeds.
Porsche is always a want to consumers because they have the mind of concept that owning Porsche is meant for upper social class and it could bring them to a higher status as the value is high. Therefore, the Porsche 914 and 944 models were out in the market in 1970s and 1980s to attract consumers from different social classes who could not afford a traditional Porsche model. At that time, consumers bought the 914 and 944 models to satisfy their needs and wants because they wanted the image of the brand. It also boost their confidence and low self-esteem while being associated with upper social classes.
The Mustang GT only only offered the 289- cubic inch or an 390- cubic inch V8 in 1967. The Camaro rolled out with 302, 327, 350, and 396 cubic inch V8’s (Camaro 14) The Camaro’s style was much smoother as well. The introduction of the Camaro threw pony car development into a frenzy. Before the Camaro, the Mustang and Barracuda were not quite considered full muscle cars. The automobile changed American life, but the process was gradual. Though historians argue the date and inventor of the first automobile, we can say that Henry Ford’s creation of his Ford Motor Company in 1903 marked perhaps the major milestone of the early twentieth century automobile industry in America and around the world. Five years after the company’s inception, Ford’s legendary Model T of 1908 would revolutionize transportation and the world economy. Before the Model T, automobiles in the US were associated with only the wealthier class. Ford sought to make cars available to every American. His cars would assume the general build that continues to characterize automobiles today, and his innovation and system of production would make him a legend.[i] The automobile led to an extremely advanced system of roads and contributed to an American mentality of freedom to move.[ii] Early drivers saw both benefits and difficulties as the automobile became the standard American mode of transportation.

The year 2009 marked the release of the GT 500 KR. The glass top was the only major change to the body style this year. In 2010, the Mustang featured a new redesign. The trend in vehicles has moved towards larger sedans and SUV's, and the ones who are purchasing smaller vehicles are looking for cars more sporty than the models Saturn offers.
