The bow and arrow dates back to thousands of years ago, it is estimated that they were found anywhere from 18,000BC to 25,000BC. They were used all over the world but the first arrowhead was discovered in Africa. There are many kinds of bows, the most common are the longbow and the recurve, there were many different styles created by several cultures during different times in history. In the Stone Ages, drawings discovered in caves illustrated many simple segment bows with many different shapes; flat, paddle-shaped bows were shot by Andaman Islanders. Some bows were made with wood like elm and yew, while others were made with many different materials like animal bones, horns and tendons; this was called the composite bow. The composite bow could either be made of wood and other materials or be made completely from different materials. In China, composite bows were comprised of newly harvested and dried bamboo. Scientists suggest that the bow originated from spear throwers and in between 18,000BC and 25,000BC fire was used to make stone arrowheads harder and feathers were added to make them more accurate.
During the Mesolithic period (20,000BC-7, 500BC) and Neolithic (7,500BC-3, 500BC) period illustrations of bows from that time appear on cave walls and rock faces. Several different kinds of bows were drawn, there were many long and short simple segment bows with more of a circular shape, but there were also more complex bow shapes, which suggests that they were composite bows. Composite bows were found in north Eastern Europe and Asia. The composite bow was a result of great need because wood wasn’t available in the regions where it was found. It was mostly used in North America, parts of South America and what is now Russia and ...

From 1755 to 1760 the Indians fought the French in the French Indian war and relied on their archery skills to defend themselves. From 1700 to 1800 bows and arrows were still widely used by the Native Americans, but started to become familiar with guns and ended up using both for hunting and protection.
In 1904, 1908, and 1920 archery became a sport in the Olympics but was not included again until 1972. Minnesota was the first state to have a bow-hunting season, which started in 1934. In 1969 Holess Wilber Allen invented the compound bow.
Archery is no longer used in battles but is very popular as a recreational sport; you can shoot targets, 3-D animals, and moving targets. There are also leagues people of almost any age can participate in. Archery is also popular for hunting, bow-hunting seasons are held at all different times throughout the United States.
Most of the instruments we play today, actually originated for the instruments played during the Middle Ages 1475. People at that time played drums for all kinds of things, like festivals, social events, and even at times of despair just to try to inspire other people. Also Hungarian drummers would hang drums on the sides of their horses and they would play them while they road. To add to that, Middle Eastern people would do the same thing but they would be riding camels. (Jason) Drumheads have been made from dried and stretched animal skin for a very long time, but after a while the way they prepared these drumheads improved and the quality of the heads increased. Some drumheads are still made from those same materials. Some time during the 1940’s Du Pont started to test a synthetic polyester film Mylar. Starting sometime in the 19th century the classification for instruments in the percussion category had evolved more quickly. During the last third of the 20th century percussion instr...

Paleo-Indians were large game hunting Indian peoples whose cultures predate the adoption of horticulture and the bow and arrow. Because of the large game animals' extinction, for the next seven or eight thousand years, Native Americans hunted smaller game, fished, and foraged for wild plant foods.

I have been bow hunting since I was about 8 years old. I am going to go over the basic steps and necessary equipment needed to start becoming a successful bow hunter. Some of the key things you will need during this are a decent set of camouflage, a compound hunting bow and a place to hunt. Despite the time it takes to be successful; bow hunting can be very rewarding.
The favored bow was the small rifle, which had a lot of advantages over the larger ones. This bow could be carried while loaded and ready to fire. This was not possible with a longbow. The crossbow also required less skill and practice to use effectively while the longbow required constant practice and exercise so the soldiers could be strong enough to hold the string back. And even though the longbow was more work and required more skill the crossbow still had a lot more power and accuracy and worked more effectively than the longbow.
There are many different ways in which these hunters killed the whitetail deer in the past and still use some of these objects and methods today. Blunt objects, clubs, spears, knives, axes, harpoons, bow and arrow, traps, snares and guns are some of the objects used for hunting. The Native Americans’ main way of killing deer was bow and arrow. Native American’s methods of hunting were used for centuries. The arrival of the Europeans vastly altered the hunting process. The Native Americans understood hunting, and that is what they did best. Native Americans only hunted what they needed. The entire carcass was used and the other resources were not wasted. From the web site Le Moyne Pictures, a French explorer describes the Native Americans, "The Indians, when hunting deer, used ingenuity such as we had never seen before…” (Le Moyne Index 1994). A clever invention of these Indians was to modify the carcasses of the deer into disguises (1994). This innovation allowed the Indians to get very close to the deer. The disguises made killing them a lot easier with bows and arrows. According to the article, “How the Indians Hunt Deer,” the Native Americans were described as being skillful, “they were able to remove the deer skin and prepare it without any metal knife, just shells, with such skill that I doubt there was anyone in the whole of Europe who could do it better” (1994...
Hunting has been a way of life since the first man and woman were on Earth. The first Native Americans hunted; Christopher Columbus’ contemporaries hunted; the people of the twentieth century hunted; and the people of today ARE hunting. Hunting has been around for ages. Archery is for anybody. Tall, short, you name it. It is a sport that is included in the after-school program at GCMS. The sport contains 2 simple things: Bow and Arrow. Getting involved in this program is very simple. All there is to do is show up and pay $5 dollars each meet. Rules, there are a lot of them. Some include being behind the shooting range when other flights are up, a certain amount of whistle blows means copious things, hands up to face up, etc... There are competitions to win prizes near the end of the year that all can look forward to and there are events like the archery tournament that a select few can go and get into it As Michael D. states "You have to focus to make the archery team".
The Upper Paleolithic Era occurred about 50,000 years ago and lasted nearly one-tenth of the more widely known Stone Age Era(Guisepi). During this time, Homo Sapiens were leaving the Middle Paleolithic Era, where advancements such as; points, arrows, darts, as well as other projectile tools originated, for the Upper Paleolithic Era. It is important to point out that during the Middle Paleolithic Era, the Homo Sapiens made large advancements in, “ the application of ‘prepared core technique.’” In this process, “a core was carefully flaked on one side so that for a flake of predetermined size and shape could be produced in a single blow(Middle)” By using this technique they gained knowledge of how to cre...
The Paleolithic Period began 2.5 million years ago. This period is said to have began when the first evidence of tools constructed and used by humans were found. This period is often referred to as the Old Stone Age. It is characterized by the us of stone tools. These were some of the first tools used by humans, mostly used to hunt their food. However, tools such as spears and bones, used after killing an animal, were also used as hunting tools. The Paleolithic Period covers almost 95 % of the human prehistory. This is dated as far back as 3.3 million years ago when stone tools were made to about 6,000 years ago when the first writing system was created. During the Paleolithic Period, groups of people began to stick together. This is what became some of the first tribes. They traveled and hunted in groups of people, instead of just a few traveling together. They often would follow food, including the giant woolly mammoth. Then, “fifteen thousand years ago, Homo sapiens took advantage of land bridges exposed by lowered sea levels and spread to Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia, and, finally, the Americas,” (1). The groups of Hunter-Gatherers usually made houses of wood or hide. They weren’t very large
Although many sports are not considered American-made, basketball is one of the few that began in America. In fact it is the only major sport that can be considered American-made (Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The inventor of basketball was Dr. James Naismith, who created the sport in 1891(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). This was all the way back when there were only forty-four states(nbahoopsonline.com, NBA History). He made the sport in Springfield, Massachusetts(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). Naismith invented this sport because he was P.E. teacher seeking a sport with limited physical contact, but it contained running, jumping, shooting, and hand-eye coordination(Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The game first used peach baskets and a soccer like ball(History.com Staff,
