Throughout history and legend, people have told of a giant creature that lurked at the depth of the ocean. They have told of a massive beast, with arms 60 feet long. This creature supposedly would destroy ships and devour people whole. It was feared for centuries, and named the Kracken. Not too terribly long ago, this creature was proven by science. It was proven to be not a demon, but a species of massive Squid.
The Giant Squid is, as the name describes, a massive squid, of the genus architeuthis, which can grow up to 43 feet long, and weigh more than half a ton. Some have even reported squids that are 60 or more feet long, although squids this size have yet to be confirmed by science. Like other squids, it has ten arms, eight of which are used to swim, and two of which are used to gather food, and are generally considerably longer than the ones used to swim. As well, it has the largest eyes in the animal kingdom. It moves by both using its arms to swim and a funnel to channel and pump water to move swiftly through the ocean water. It uses a sharp beak to devour its prey, which consists of mainly “deep-sea fishes, such as orange ruffie, and hokie” [1].
The Giant Squid has been well-known throughout myth and legend, supposedly gobbling up people, and even sinking ships. The term for “Giant Squid” then was “Kracken”, and these creatures would hunt down unsuspecting ships and destroy them with its massive limbs. However, this has not been recorded to ever happen in the scientific world. In fact, these creatures rarely come to the surface unless they are injured or dying. Although they have been seen fighting with sperm whales, they wouldn’t have the strength or ability to take down a decent sized ship.

“Tentacles” by Roland Smith is the second novel in the “Cryptid Hunters” series and was released in 2009. Uncle Wolfe 's latest project is to go to New Zealand to find a giant squid, and the gigantic freighter he has rented for the trip may just be haunted. Someone on the trip is determined to sabotage their trip. Grace and Marty may just be the next victims, if they keep poking their noses into things.
“Cnidarians” is Greek for “stinging nettle” (“Introduction to Cnidaria"). Phylum Cnidaria include freshwater hydra, jellyfish, and corals. Each of these invertebrates go through transitions in body forms. Jellyfish are the most unusual and complex out of the phylum. Jellyfish are in the class Scyphozoa, which means true jellyfish.
For example, zombie worms are very tiny. They are so small, they even lack a mouth and gut. They are red and pink in color. Giant squids are the opposite of zombie worms because they are extremely large. For example, they have two feeding tentacles which can be up to ten meters long, they also have eight arms that are all about half the size of their feeding tentacles. The feeding tentacles have hundreds of strong, toothed suckers and all arms have thousands of the same toothed suckers. The squid also has the largest eyes on earth, it has two eyes that are eleven inches in diameter. They are different colors, for example, at the surface of the ocean they are reddish orange or pink with spots of white and in the deeper parts of the ocean, they are silvery or gold. Yeti crabs are white or very pale yellow. They have hairy legs and chests and they measure almost six inches long. Each of these animals had to adapt to live in the sea and their appearances play a large role in this. For example, zombie worms don’t have a mouth or stomach, but instead they have skin cells that produce acid, the giant squids use their arms to catch prey and feed itself, and the crabs are able to survive in extreme heat and
What is scaly, creepy, 50 feet long, and swims in the world's most notorious lake? If you said The Loch Ness Monster, then you’re correct! The Loch Ness Monster, mostly known as the creature Nessie, is a huge, “mythical” creature that has been scaring the people of Ireland for centuries, but this monster is actually real.
Everyone knows the famous opening tune to the famous 1975 Spielberg movie Jaws, which portrays the chaos that sharks can cause. From then until now, movies that showcase the ever-violent personalities of sharks have been popular in the media. They are seen as the face of oceanic brutality, whether they bite off people’s arms or cause turbulence in beach parties. Little does the world know about the dangers that we, humans, do to these natural predators of the oceans.
You may think a great white shark is massive, but their ancestors would make them look like midgets in comparison. An ancient shark called Megalodon appeared on earth more than 20 million years ago. Based on fossils of their teeth, scientists are estimating that the Megalodon would be the size of a school bus! That’s big enough to feast on whales.
They are creatures that have no clue what we are and are afraid of us. Every year, thousands of more people are killed by other people than by sharks; thousand more people are killed in car accidents than by sharks, and more people are killed by lightning strikes than by sharks. Each year humans kill tens of thousands of sharks, yet, there are fewer than 100 shark attacks upon humans. For example, The Great White shark also known as the man-eater, has the greatest reputation for attacking humans. Recent studies of Great Whites show that they mainly feed on sea-mammals. Seen from below the surface a person swimming with a shark looks much like a seal, with arms and legs sticking out. The shark usually surprises its victim, being a person or seal, by one massive bite, and then retreats in order to allow the victim to die before digesting the food. For this reason, many humans survived the attack of a Great White shark if they are saved before being eaten. Not only getting out of the water and be safe, but the result of loss, blood or
is, without a doubt, the largest inhabitant of the globe; the most formidable of all whales to encounter;
What they do is produce light (bioluminescence) that helps the squid camouflage itself at night. The squid has a special way of sensing how much moonlight is coming down, and then using a shutter, can control how much light comes out. This makes the squid not cast a shadow, making it harder for predators and prey to see it. During the day, the squid pumps out the dead bacteria, and the process starts again. What her team did was look at how these bacteria produced their light. When they were in a dilute solution with very few bacteria, then they did not produce light. But when there were many bacteria, they did produce light. The reason this happened is because the bacteria produce these chemical messengers called Quorums, which help the bacteria know how much of them there
These two sea creatures both live in oceans,but have very different lives in the deep blue sea.Such as their brain smarts.A dolphin is the smartest sea creature in the world.For where a squid,doesn’t even have a brain.The squid also has no backbones.The dolphin does.Even though they have these different traits they do have many similarities.They both are very large creatures that can grow up to six thousand six hundred pounds!Both of them have no hair on their bodies.
Have you ever wanted to slap eight people at once? Or if you're more of a mushy, touchy, feely person, have you ever wanted to hug eight people at once? An octopus can do either or both of these if they want to! So you know an octopus is lucky being able to do this but what's an octopuses habitat? Since they can slap eight things at once do they have predators? Or since we're on the facty facts subject where do they live?

Do mermaids exist or not? Mermaid sightings have been reported as early as 586 A.D. A great historian named Pliny the Elder was convinced of the existence of mermaids and described them as “rough and scaled all over.” Thousands of sailors across the globe have reported seeing mermaids swimming off the bows of their ships. Even Christopher Columbus reported an encounter with a mermaid; in January of 1493 Columbus reported that he saw three mermaids frolicking in the ocean just off Haiti. ( "Unknown Explorers - Mermaids") Columbus stated that the creatures “came high out of the water” but were “not as pretty as they are depicted, for somehow the face looked more like a man’s.” ( "Unknown Explorers - Mermaids") What he saw could have easily been a type of animal he did not recognize.
What is the largest fish in the world? The answer would be the Rhincodon typus, or commonly known as, the whale shark. The whale shark is vey unique because unlike normal sharks, the whale shark is a filter feeder and so, does not have use of its teeth. The whale shark is also about the size of a bus. However, like many animals in the world today, they are considered vulnerable according to the IUCN. They are seen often in the tropical areas, but many behavior and movement mechanism of the whale shark are still unknown.
One particularly interesting sea creature is the whale shark, formally known as Rhincondon typus it was first discovered in 1828 by Andrew Smith (Rowat 2012). This large fish is found globally in warm tropical oceans and prefers to stay within 200 meters of the ocean’s surface in waters ranging from 4.2 to 28.7 degrees Celsius (Stevens 2006). This creature can be found all across the globe in any warm tropical seas. Aggregations of whale sharks have been seen off the coast of Australia at times, although it is primarily a creature of solitude. Whale sharks are filter feeders that consume plankton as well as small fish and are harmless to humans. The whale shark is a species with a fascinating ecology, life history, behavior, anatomy
