New Zealand is a country enveloped in mystery and excitement. New Zealand is an island in southern Oceania. It is called NZ for short. The capital city is Wellington, and the vast majority of the people speak English. According to the CIA World Factbook, New Zealand has a population of about 4,365,113 citizens as of July 2013. There are many different prospects to the land, society, and economical systems of New Zealand.
New Zealand has a rich history. It was first settled in 1200 A.D. by a group of people called the Maori. The Maori brought foods such as yams, kumara, and taro. An explorer named Abel Tasman was the first European to see New Zealand on December 13, 1642. The next explorer to come was James Cook in 1769. The French came next, and after the French they waited 20 years before travel to New Zealand became usual. They became a colony of England and gained independence on September 26, 1907. That is when New Zealand’s government really started developing.
New Zealand has a “parliamentary democracy and a commonwealth realm” government. The head of the government is the Prime Minister, currently John Key. The Chief of State is Queen Elizabeth II, represented by Governor General Lt. Gen. Sir Jerry Mateparae. The head of the judicial branch is the Supreme Court, led by five justices. In New Zealand voter Registration is mandatory, though it is not mandatory to vote. Suffrage is universal at age 18. The national anthem is called God Defend New Zealand. The government and the economy go hand in hand.
New Zealand’s economy is also very interesting. The GDP per capita is $30,400.The Currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD). One NZD equals $1.25 in USD. The agriculture includes things such as dairy, beef, fish, lamb, wool, whe...

Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It is popular to buy and wear poppies. The profits go towards the armed forces. Waitangi Day is a holiday celebrating the anniversary of the 1840 signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by the British and Maori. People will relax and have barbeques that day with neighbors and family. Christmas takes place in summer in New Zealand, so it is a popular time for vacations and the ever popular Barbie.
There are many angles to the physical, social, and professional ways of New Zealand. New Zealand is a very extraordinary country with even more extraordinary people. You should find a way to capture the essence of New Zealand’s serenity and adventure to bring it into your own life.
