History of Correctional Policies
Policies give agencies direction on how to best accomplish their missions. They also help agencies to meet their obligations and deadlines. They also help the operations of the agency to run smoothly. Policies help agencies to have rules and regulations in place. Policies are good to have because they also help to keep the public safe and secure.
Correctional policies had to be developed in order to get some order and to gain control in correctional facilities. They were also developed in for people in correctional facilities to be treated fairly. It involves citizens helping to prevent crime in their neighborhood or community. The citizens are the eyes and the community and they remain alert and on the lookout for suspicious activities that might be happening. If they see anything, they report those activities to the police. Most of the crimes that are happening in neighborhoods are burglary. Robberies, vandalism and car thefts also occur in communities. More recently, murders have be the crime occurring in neighborhoods.
The popularity of Neighborhood Watch programs has grown since the 1980s (Neighborhood Watch, 1). They can have a variety of components in them. Most programs have three components. The Neighborhood Watch groups decide which components they want to have. They do this by choosing which components they think will help to keep the communities safer.
The first component of a Neighborhood Watch is the “watch” component. In this component, citizens are asked to watch for suspicious activities and report those activities to the police. The second major component is property marking. This is when residents are encouraged to permanently mark personal property items to indicate ownership.
