Necessary as a precursor, in order to understand the desires of Hip-Hop one must know the origins of Rap. Hip-Hop/Rap began with a splash in 1979 when the first rap group, known as the Sugar Hill Gang released their song “Rapper’s Delight”. Through this avenue, many other Hip-Hop artists boasting different styles have emerged through the years. The evident influence of Hip-Hop/Rap was also seen in other “non-musical” realms. For example, through other media outlets, Hip-Hop/Rap culture has affected worldwide fashion, and language. In a retrospective article entitled, Hip-Hop Defines Today’s Youth Culture Worldwide, Dalton Higgins states that “It 's a hip hop world, and you 're just living in it. For most music-addicted earthlings, hip hop culture is the predominant global youth subculture of today. For the non-music initiated, hip hop has become the black, jewelry-laden elephant in a room filled with rock, country and classical music—an attention-grabber whose influence is impossible to miss on the daily news, in school playgrounds, during water cooler conversations or in a political debate.” (Higgins, 2013). Finally, through concrete evidence, it is solid to claim that the culture of Hip-Hop/Rap as a whole is a partner to the community rather than a nuisance.
