Growing up in Brooklyn, NY I keenly became aware that in my own neighborhood there were educational disparities, street violence, and police brutality. Due to the widespread presence of these issues while walking home from school or going grocery shopping with my mother, I also learned there was internal conflict between the people that lived in the community and those who were appointed to represent them- the congressional representative of my district. My premature awareness of these issues caused me to question who had the ability to solve the problems of my community? More specifically, I want to be engaged in efforts concerning the prevention of gun violence. This is a very important issue to me because it is a pervasive problem in my own community and it has recently been acknowledged as a national concern. The Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting is what led to this steady awareness, though since this tragedy there have not been any comprehensive regulations on gun control. In order to get involved in this issue, I would facilitate a discussion that touches on the causes, rates, and the prevention steps that can be taken by a community to end gun violence in their own home. By choosing to inform communities about gun violence in a formal setting, my hope is that this will demonstrate the significance of the issue and encourage people outside of their community to get involved. While I have maintained these two goals for my career, I most want to become a lawyer because there is immeasurable power in the masses. That is, getting people to join a cause is a dynamic force that cannot be contested if solidarity has been honestly established. This is even one of the most efficient ways to make change because no one can ignore the will of the people. Essentially, becoming a lawyer will provide me with the agency to help others improve the circumstances of their life and overall reveal that anyone can utilize their rights to change the things that they believe has no just place in
