Kenny Buchanan 44, dropped out of high school as a teenager. Now he has
lost his job when the economy collapsed. Kenny Buchanan lives in Schuylkill County, PA. He
dropped out of high school when he was in the 9th Grade, but he was 18 years old at the time. He
failed the 9th grade two times, and he lost all interest in school and told his mom that he didn’t
want to go back to school anymore. Kenny said that he didn’t really worry about his job limits
but right after he dropped out, he had gotten a full-time job at Burger King. At this time in
America, it was much easier to find a job without a high school diploma than now. Kenny is one
of 40 million Americans that dropout of high school, 60% of them are from ages 40-70 years old.
Kenny said that when he run into old friends from high school, he feels so embarrassed about is
job; he only makes seven dollars an hour but his old classmates has six figures salaries. Later on
he felt that he had to get his GED and he got it. Even though he still laid off; he have received
respect from his friends and family.
I want to know , “Why the High school dropout rate so high and how can we
decrease it”?. . I chose this topic because I hate seeing students drop out and do nothing with
their lives except being on or selling drugs and causing trouble in the community. Without a high
school diploma you will have to work for minimum wage and live in poverty. If you want to be
able to buy the things you want and not having to live in poverty, get your high school diploma.
Teenagers that drop out of school fall into the wrong crowd and end up dead or in jail. ‘Every
year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That’s a
student every 26 seconds – or 7...

students who graduate late, graduate early, possess a GED or move to schools outside their
district. None of this information should be interpret to minimize the significance of reasoning
action to raise black male accomplishment. Putting this information in perspective, we should
recognize that completion rates for black males continue to linger behind white males.
