Hero among Hero’s Do you know what it takes to be a hero? A hero by dictionary definition is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. A hero is not someone who is closed-minded, selfish, or snobby. There are heroes everywhere in the world, and a hero should not be defined as a male or female. I have many heroes in my life and they have helped me immensely. The two biggest heroes in my life would have to be my parents. A hero to me is someone who has perseverance, is compassionate, and selfless. First, my father shows some of the best examples of perseverance. Perseverance is when you get knocked down and you get up and keep going. I think Rocky Balboa said it best “It ain’t how hard ya can hit. It’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” To start, he displays perseverance during sports. For example, my father played in an adult softball game, and in one of his game he was playing second base for his team. He was set up to get a ground ball that was hit toward him but he did not expect it to jump backwards and he reached out to get it, but as he did he pulled his hamstring. This is one of the only times I have seen my father in agony, when I asked how it felt he said it felt like his muscle was crushing his bone. He is a person to never quit once he started something, so he went to play catcher. Thus, with perseverance he continued to play despite the extreme pain in his leg. Heroes are not defined by gender, but by the traits they have and value. To me my parents are my heroes. They have showed me how to persevere and be compassionate. With that I learned that I am selfless and I love to help others. Someday I would like to become someone’s hero so I will follow my parents. Now you know what it takes to be a hero, will you become
