Have you ever loved someone so much that you would be willing to die to be with them? No? Me neither, but that is just what Hernani did. During this time, the theatre was slowly changing from neo-classicalism to romanticism, which is one of the reasons why there were riots at certain plays. Gas lighting was also new to the theatre. Nineteenth century theatre had more of a change than previous theatres because there were new advancements in technology, changes to the theatre itself, and plays such as Hernani.
The 1800’s was a time of development in science. New and what seemed like crazy ideas were surfacing. These ideas were more easily accepted than in past years. There were new theories such as the Cell Theory by Mathias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann in 1838 (Farah 626) and the Atomic Theory by John Dalton (Farah 628).A little over a decade after the Cell Theory was proposed, Louis Pasteur discovered bacteria in 1850 (Farah 627).
During the nineteenth century, Charles Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species (Farah 627). For many years, this book has sparked controversy with a couple of religions. Nevertheless, Darwin’s theory of evolution is taught in many high school biology classes. Another advancement in science was the discovery of X-rays in 1895 by Wilhelm K. Roentgen (Farah 628). This development helped doctors look inside a person without having to make an incision.
There were also many inventions during this time. One of which is something most of us in the twenty-first century can’t live without, the telephone. That night, Hernani hears the horn and decides to poison himselh (Asher). Not being able to bear living without him, Dona Sol drinks half of the poison and they die together (Asher).
The changes in technology gave lighting to the theatres. The change in theatre brought around a new group of audiences. Its change from Neoclassicism to Romanticism paved the way for plays such as Hernani. It’s understandable that nineteenth century theatre has changed dramatically.
Eighteenth century British theatre was perhaps the starting point that would evolve into modern theatre. Women started to be allowed on stage and acting techniques were beginning to change. Leading performers were like celebrities with a number of fans. Theatre was an intricate part of the social ladder. In the overall scheme of things the actors and actresses played an important part in making the theatre what it was. Without the performers there wouldn’t really be theatre, so in order to understand the eighteenth century British theatre the performers of that era need to be understood.
This time period also saw many new inventions that would change American society forever. Such things as the telephone, radio, and television are things that the average present day American could not imagine living without. But a hundred years ago people were amazed at such things. Railroads were now able to bring people all over the country while steam ships could bring you all around the world and airplanes could let you fly. The horseless carriage turned into the automobile.
It is also interesting to know just how many medical breakthroughs came about by accident. It allows people to realize that, although it should be handled with the utmost care, cut of the edge research is not always cut and dry. This book teaches that it takes true intellect to take what seems like a failure or an accident and instead of abandoning it, reflecting on what has truly happened. Students as well as current researchers should read, study, and take inspiration from this book. It has a lot to teach other than simply the surface of the history of the discoveries it

In 1870, the first transcontinental railroad trip in the United States took place. The transcontinental railroad brought America together. This made it easier for traveling and especially made it easier for the industries by being able to commute products back and forth. Since Bacon and others pushed for a more empirical approach, numerous discoveries have been made. During this scientific revolution throughout the 16th century was categorized with big advances such as the making of new lenses by Galileo, Kepler and Huygens leading to new information about the stars and space, Magellan circumnavigating the earth, Columbus discovering the Americas, Gutenberg’s printing press advancing literature rapidly, and a religious reformation by Martin Luther that changed the church indefinitely (Graham, 2009). The 19th century changed people’s perspectives on theater. Theaters grew in size, plays became more professional, and costumes became more extravagant. Theater in the 19th century was influenced by the advanced changes, technology and society. Theater had a big impact on how people viewed things.
Alexander Graham Bell is the man most remembered for creating the telephone. Other than that he is a man who always had an obsession for communication. Mr. Bell once said, “Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve the cooperation of man minds. I may be given credit for having blazed the trail, but when I look at the subsequent developments I feel the credit is due to others rather than to myself.” Alexander Graham Bell’s actions are shown in three ways in this essay; the telephone, other inventions, and his passion for communication.

DNA was cracked! They solved the DNA three-dimensional structure at Cambridge, England and were ready to show the first model to their colleagues by March 7th, 1953. They learned how genes worked and how inherited features are passed down from one generation to the next. Their discovery was included in Matt Ridley’s book called Genome. People knew that heredity also affected animals and plants as it does humans. Having red hair or blue eyes gets passed on from one generation to the next one.
Long before Charles Darwin, other people made important contributions to the historical development of the theory of evolution. It all started in 5th century BC when early Greek philosophers characterized the origin of the natural world as by the power of nature rather than by supernatural force. They proposed the theory of evolution to explain the basis of the natural world. Thus, evolutionary theory began with the Ionian philosopher Anaximander (611-546 BC) who proposed living beings gradually developed from water and that humans originated from animals. He proposed the world had arisen from an undifferentiated, indeterminate substance. In the 6th century BC, Xenophanes (570475 BC) developed Anaximander’s theories by using fossils as evidence for a theory of the Earth as originating from water. In the 5th century, Empedocles postulated that the universe was composed of the elements: earth, air, fire and water. Darwin pays tribute to Empedocles for his theory of natural selection; Empedocles argued for reproductive fitness and survival of the fittest. In Roman times, the poet and philosopher Lucretius (99-55 BC) followed in Empedocles footsteps, proposing a similar evolutionary theory in which species were born out of the Earth formed by the combination of the elements with natural selection and survival of the fittest.

Automobiles gave people personal transportation and freedom. Theatre will always survive in our changing society. It provides us with a mirror of the society within which we live, and where conflicts we experience are acted out on stage before us. It provides us with characters with which we identify with. The audience observes the emotions and actions as they happen and share the experience with the characters in real time.
