Herbs because of their much nutritional value in many countries have important role in family daily food basket. They also have different kinds of vitamins, minerals and cellulose materials that play very important role in human health (Peyvast, 2009). Greenhouse production industry and plants production in hydroponic systems has grown a lot in recent years. This production method can provides high-quality products in every year and free from pesticides and herbicide residual usage for farmers and growers (Mairapetyan, 1999; Dorais, et al. 2001). Root environment in hydroponics systems always has enough water, air and food. This system increases the absorption and roots metabolic activities that lead to high growth rate of plants (Mairapetyan. 1999; Dorais et al. 2001; Manukyan, et al. 2004). In order to provide appropriate levels of nutrient elements for plants accurate nutritional programs must be used (Iersel and Kang, 2002). Different concentrations of nutrient solution have been published on the basis of fertilizer recommendations and select on the basis of experience, plant species and cultivars, growth stage and plant breeding system (Schwarz, et al. 2002).
Effect of different concentrations of nutrient solution was examined on growth, yield and quality of basil and stated that the best growth and most yield of basil obtained with standard solution or half the concentration of standard solution (Suh, et al. 1999). Affect of different concentrations of nutrient solution on salvia plants expressing that nutrient solution concentration has a significant effect on plant root and shoot dry weight. (Kang and Iersel, 2004). Udagawa (1995) compare different concentrations of nutrient solution on dill a...

... Iersel, (2004) and Udagawa (1995) in similar experiments stated that concentration of nutrient solution have significantly effect on root, shoot of dill and thyme dry weight. Such results don’t observe in our study on basil plants.
Conclusion
Herbs like cress and basil no need much concentration of nutrient solution and moderate amount of all elements is more benefit for them. Cress and basil response differently to ammonium concentration in nutrient solution. Ammonium has a positive effect on Cress while basil shows negative response to ammonium in this reason nutrient solution with low ammonium concentration was proposed for basil production in nutrient film technique. In other hand nutrient solution containing suitable concentration of ammonium proposed for cress production. However the suitable concentration of this ion must be tested in next experiments.
Two members of the group were instructed to visit the laboratory each day of the experiment to water and measure the plants (Handout 1). The measurements that were preformed were to be precise and accurate by the group by organizing a standardized way to measure the plants. The plants were measured from the level of the soil, which was flat throughout all the cups, to the tip of the apical meristems. The leaves were not considered. The watering of the plants took place nearly everyday, except for the times the lab was closed. Respective of cup label, the appropriate drop of solution was added to the plant, at the very tip of the apical meristems.
Since the minimum concentration of GA did not produce the greatest change in height for the radish plant, the hypothesis was not supported. The most possible explanation for this unusual result could be that the Seed with less amount of GA and water was not treated correctly and at the proper time. Another case could be that the amount of GA and water used was not enough or perhaps during the treatment plan, some group members might have forgotten to water the plants as scheduled, which could have affected the overall growth factor and health of the plant. Due to this outcome, more precautions and full responsibilities should be taken to obtain a better result in the future
Our subject plant for this experiment is Helianthus annuus, a common sunflower plant cultivated all over the world for its seeds and seed oil. Helianthus is an annual plant that grows from 1 to 3 meters, depending on conditions. It is for this reason I chose Helianthus as our subject plant. Shorter plants have a less measurable variable. Helianthus plants, with their long straight stems, would have a much easier variable to measure. A total of 24 Helianthus plants, six to each pot, will be used in the treatment. The large number of subject plants is because of genetic variation that might sway my results if I were to use only a single treatment pot.
Plant food is a type of fertilizer in which plants are suppose to grow taller and healthier when the food is used over a period of time. It is made up of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Nitrogen makes plants grow faster and produce more leaves, phosphorus makes the roots work better, and potassium gives larger flowers and prevents infection. The plant food contains these nutrients that are absorbed by the roots of a plant. Radishes, however, the subject of interest in this experiment is speculated by some to whether plant food actually works on it. However, for the experiment to be successful, the background information on the radish, “Early Scarlet Globe”, must be intact.
The another devastating abiotic stress which is considered to be highly responsible worldwide for decreasing yield and quality of crop productivity is drought (Lambers et al. 2008 ; Moghadam et al .,2011; Mohsen Pourgholam et al.,2013 ; M. Farooq et al., 2012; Abolhasani and Saeidi, 2004 ; Monjezi et al., 2013).It harms plant growth and development and reduces crop growth rate and also affects biomass accumulation. Generally, in crop plants drought severely affects the cell division and expansion, elongation of root, leaf size, proliferation of root and inhibition of shoot growth (Sharp & Davies 1989; Spollen et al.,1993;Yamaguchi et al.,2010). Furthermore ,it also badly hampers all kinds of plant functions and physiological and biochemical traits such as mineral elements, carbohydrates, free radicals, ions, hormones, lipids, and nucleic acids (HongBo et al., 2005; Yasar et al., ; Moghadam et al .,2011,Mohsen Pourgholam et al,2013) .The transportation of nutrients from the roots to the stem severely get affected by drought as the rate of transpiration is reduced and damage of active transport and membrane permeability take place (Viets, 1972; Alam, 1999; Yasar et al ). Simultaneously, due to decrease in soil moisture, problem occurs with the low distribution of absorbed nutrients by the plant roots in the soil (Alam, 1999; Yasar et al ). More importantly, drought leads to rise in generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to energy accumulation in stress condition of plants (Smirnoff 1993; Asada 2006; Waraich et al.,2011).Drought diminishes photosynthetic carbon fixation primarily through restraining the entrance of CO2 into the leaf or by reducing metabolism (Smirnoff 1993; Loggini et al., 1999; Ap...
My group, fertilizer group 3, is testing the variables of plant color and number of leaves. Fertilizer can affect that drastically! Those two variables are basically what determine a healthy plant. Fertilizer can help to boost the minerals in the soil and give the plant what it needs to survive and be healthy.
Herbal medicine is the extraction of herbs or plants which have a medicinal value in treating illnesses and diseases (Brody 1). A herb is known as a plant that does not have a woody stem and usually dies back at the end of each growing season. It is also known as a "natural" drug because they are derived from nature. This is unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which are synthesized from chemicals.
ABSTRACT. Seeds being able to germinate while being exposed to various levels of salt concentration is vital to its survival. In this experiment, Buckwheat seeds were examined with different concentrations of NaCl to see the rate at which they germinated, if germination took place at all. Every day for a week, a log was kept with the conditions/environment the seeds were kept in and to see if any changes had occurred. The results of the experiment showed that the Buckwheat seeds grew best with a lower concentration of salt.
Three substances mainly make fertilisers: nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. Their percentage in the solution will change the effectiveness on a determinate plant; for example is recommended to use high proportion of nitrogen fertilizers during the spring growth of spurts. The fertilisers can be spitted in two categories: organic that contains a low level of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium and aren’t toxic to the environment and synthetic that are made by a high concentration of the three substances and can be corrosive to the environment if are overused.
The level of Nitric Oxide in the plants were measured by taking samples of the root and the leaves. A dye was applied to the nitric oxide in order for it to be more clear when viewed.
For cassava root, r2 for predicting individual AA from CP content was generally low and was greater than 20% only for TAA and valine. Also, r2 for predicting individual AA from leaf was 25% for TAA while that of peel was above 70% for histidine and threonine. Weak relationship observed among the CP, TAA and TIAA in this study might be due to their percentage proportion and changes in protein level as a result of development stage and environment (Howelar,
The effect of soil salinity in plant growth is part of botany, the study of plants.
Soil qualities can influence the potency of plants, the minerals balance, the power concentration or flavor in leaves or flowers or seeds. Knowing your soil is a big help in planting a successful herb garden. The herbs mentioned like sun and water; most will not do well with less than 5 or 6 hours of direct sun; they need drainage, and will die in a pool of water.
The leaves of local wild and cultivated plants are of vegetables which are rich in starch and part of African diet (Smith, 2007). Some of these African leafy vegetables can also be classified as functional foods because they contain high nutrient which are beneficial to human health (Van wyk, 2003). Green plants absorb the minerals they need for diverse anabolic processes from the soil, the complex organic compounds found in plant leaves are antioxidant molecules which serves as protection against oxidative solar radiation (Zimmermann, 2005). Leafy vegetables are therefore important sources of minerals, trace elements and photochemical with health protective and immune–strengthening properties. Molecular evidences shows that the trace elements in leafy vegetables and antioxidant molecules present lowers the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease through a mechanism that molecule free radical attack on nucleic acids, proteins and polyunsaturated fatty acids (Borek,2003). This is an indication that leafy vegetables have a higher antioxidant properties compared to e...
Plant nutrition is area of plant biology that is of the utmost importance for the proliferation of plants. Without proper nutrition, plants would simply cease to exist unless drastic alterations were made. There are certain elements that are required for the plant to grow and reproduce; these elements are known as essential elements. There are three requirements of an essential element: the element must be required for the completion of the plant’s life cycle, the element must not be replaceable by another element in whole, and finally the element must be direction involved in the metabolism of the plant. Chemical compounds that are involved in proper nutrition have been designated as nutrients, and further classified as macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are needed for growth, metabolism, and many other functions, but are designated as “macro” because they are required in larger amounts. Macronutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, and fat molecules. Micronutrients have a much wider function that depends on the exact micronutrient. Micronutrients are designated as so because they are needed in much smaller amounts when compared to macronutrients. Examples of micronutrients include vitamins and minerals.
