The Heart Foundation Tick is a self-funded public health program that aims to help the general population improve the intake of nutrient foods (1).It also assist consumers to overcome confusion in understanding the food labels and easier to make healthier food choices (1). The objectives of this program want to make the food supply change and drive the nutritional health outcome of the general population better. The Heart Foundation has implemented this public health program for 25 years. In 1989, it established a set of standards for various ranges of food categories to work with food industry and is used as indicator for helping people make healthier food choice quickly. For example, previous study assessed the food label use among persons with chronic disease including hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, overweight and heart disease. This study used a survey to estimate 5603 adults from 2005 to 2006 and the participants were asked 17 questions associated with their food label use and was given two 24 hours recall a dietary interview (3). The outcome showed people with chronic disease would like to use more food label for checking specific nutrients compared with those without chronic disease (3). Although there is some limitation in this study such as whether subject are used only for some food product or only check the label for the first time that a product is brought, the result still suggested those population groups can increase the healthy dietary behaviours by using the food label. Therefore, many organizations have used food labeling as treatment strategies for people with chronic disease, particularly heart disease. Based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics Australian Health survey from 2011 to 2012, there were around 4.7% of Australian had heart, stroke and vascular disease (4). Also, the rate of occurrence is steadily rising with age and show obesity or overweight is a common risk factor for heart disease (4). The key factor of heart disease is over-consumption the high-energy dense foods such as food with high in fat and low fibre and some evidence from mete analysis of prospective cohort and randomized controlled trials demonstrate reduction in fat intake can significantly decrease the risk of coronary heart disease (5). Thus, a study has found that food labeling can successfully help consumers limit their fat intake and it can promote the consumers change of eating a low-fat diet (6).
