Healthcare Portfolio Nigeria Healthcare systems play an extremely important role in a country’s stability. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), activities of a healthcare system are to restore, promote and also maintain the health of its citizens (2016). Healthcare systems also functions to monitor, track and help control diseases. Good health care does not only affect the health and well-being of a country’s population, but it also can affect its entire economy. Unfortunately the lack of protein leads to a condition called kwashiorkor. In some part of Nigeria during circumcision of children they use cow-dung to clear the umbilical cord, which leads to tetanus infections (Ojua, Ishor, & Ndom, 2013). The traditional practice of female genital mutilation, which can have long-term reproductive health consequences and even cause death, has recently been banned/outlawed by the former Nigerian president (Goldberg, 2015). In conclusion, even though Nigeria offers several healthcare options, it certainly has its problems. Nigeria like every country will almost always have obstacles in providing proper and adequate healthcare to its citizens.
