As a child I remember playing outside for hours on end running around and playing football with friends. This was until I started playing XBOX and no longer wanted to go outside and play. Another thing I remember as a child was always eating fast food. This combination of fast food and no exercise lead to me becoming obese. This affected my childhood greatly I no longer had the energy to play, I would fail to keep up with the other kids and I developed several health problems associated with my obesity. I was no longer a happy child I became self-conscious and a once outgoing child became an introvert. The video above is a public service announcement about play 60. This play 60 PSA is to encourage children to be more physically active …show more content…
Heinrichs describes the use of willingness to act as “show the bulb that changing is a cinch, and inspire it with a vision of lightness.” (22-23) This mean showing the audience that acting on the situation will not only be easy but it is also in their benefit. The play 60 PSA creates a willingness to act by saying “now is the time for us all to do our part by donating, give the gift of service, volunteer, help kids in your community be more active and healthy.” All of these things are fairly easy to accomplish and it promises the pay off of happy, healthy children. An example of creating a willingness to act could be your friend asking you to take him to the store. At first you say no because you don’t feel like driving but after he says its is only 5 minutes away and that he will buy you something of course you say yes. Your friend made it easy for you and it promises a pay off. By using ethos, virtue and willingness to act together they ensured that the audience trust the speaker and believes that they share the same values. This followed up by convincing the audience that taking action is easy and in their benefit creates a very persuasive
Moving into the speech, pathos, ethos, and logos were mentioned multiple times. Pathos appeal to the emotions which help the reader connect to the speaker. For instance, the use of “Us” and “America will rise” various times allows the audience to connect more to the subject. Also, Booker mentions the statement “Love knows that every American has worth and value” which conveys that the audience is important and that the people of America are in this together. Ethos are appeals to credibility or
Effectively communicating an idea or opinion requires several language techniques. In his study of rhetoric, Aristotle found that persuasion was established through three fundamental tools. One is logos, which is used to support an argument through hard data and statistics. Another is ethos, which is the credibility of an author or speaker that allows an audience to conclude from background information and language selection a sense of knowledge and expertise of the person presenting the argument. The impact of pathos, however, is the most effective tool in persuasion due to the link between emotions and decisions. Although each of these tools can be effective individually, a combination of rhetorical devices when used appropriately has the ability to sway an audience toward the writer’s point of view.
In Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, pathos, logos and ethos are evidently and effectively used to persuade the audience into believing Caesar was not ambitious and that he was an innocent man. Throughout the speech the citizens were easily persuaded, but Anthony’s intellectual speeches made the audience question and imagine what they have turned into. Anthony used these three rhetorical appeals to win back the citizens just like many people do today. The power of pathos, logos and ethos in a speech can change one mind in an instant and if successfully used can change a mind to be fully persuaded without confusion.
Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most convincing civil rights activists recorded in history; but what made his speeches so successful to the public? According to Aristotle, there are three rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos appeals people through trustworthiness, pathos appeals by creating empathy from the crowd, meanwhile logos is the appeal of reason.
One way that I have attempted to derive ethos is through dynamism: I am passionate about trying to find ways to reduce the amount of waste that I put into the world. That is why I recycle. Although presenting a speech is nerve wracking hopefully I am able to convey how important recycling is in my life.
Ethical behavior is significant to the development of persuasion, and important to the behavior of humans. It also influences persuasion by developing the progression of persuasion, and increasing those who are accountable for it. A person’s ethical behavior originates with morals and changes in what way an individual is required to connect to encourage effectively and dependably and finishes with who obligation it is to take responsibility in a persuasive interchange. The significance of our ethical behavior is realized within all our origins as human beings and stands as the groundwork of our different societies. We are directed by our ethical customs in the cultures which we create and live. “The persuader’s determined actions mean more under deontological ethics than under teleological ethics” (Magee, 2014). According to David B. Resnik, J.D., (2011), ethics is defined as standards for behavior
My organization, voice, and passion were all strong points of my presentation. This allowed me to effectively engage my audience and convey my content in an efficient and logical way.
Persuasion is a difficult skill to master. One has to take into account the ideologies held by the audience and how those relate to one’s own intentions of changing minds. In order to encourage her troops to fight courageously in defense of England, Queen Elizabeth I utilizes Aristotle’s principles of effective communication that include logos, pathos and ethos in her Speech to the English Troops at Tilbury, Facing the Spanish Armada.
Childhood is something that is completely ineffable, like a shooting star that comes and goes in the blink of an eye and if we are not careful we can destroy that stars
There are many events from my past that impact my development. For instance , when I was 5 years old I always used to watch a cooking show on TV with my mother and that show has a big influence on my development. Once the show ends I used to go to the kitchen to help my mother and imitate the cook baking, blending , and mixing the condiments. based on the social learning theory as a child I had the tendency to develop behavior by watching it
The three topics chosen were all considered important to the group members. With courage and integrity the two traits tend to go hand in hand. A leader with integrity will gain the trust of his or her followership while courage will inspire them and lead change. Dees describes the concepts
1. For this Civic Engagement Speech Analysis, I will analyze my experience at the “Battling Speech Anxiety with the 3 Ps: Preparation, Practice, Performance.” The purpose of this speech is to demonstrate three practical ways to help people overcome their fear of public speaking. It was delivered to the audience by extemporaneous style. The workshop occurred in a classroom setting. There were snacks and drinks provided for everyone. The audience and the speakers were all college students. It was not a formal presentation where we should be quite the whole time. It was more relaxed; everybody had a chance to raise their voice to participate for better results. One activity of the workshop is to present an outline
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
I strongly believe that everyone’s childhood is reflected in their adulthood. Wearing the same dress every day for a year and being born a stubborn child has molded me into the young woman I am today. Talking a lot and taking in what I learn has helped to develop strong opinions and morals that help me in making decisions every day. I am proud of who I am and where I come from.
As long as I can remember I have had an amazing childhood. I have always been blessed with love and surrounded by many people I can look up to. I grew up with amazing parents and siblings that gave me oppoutunites some people do not always get. Many things have happened in my life time to make me the person that I am today. Without my childhood friends, family, and teachers the person I am would not be here. The top five experiences I can recall from my childhood that really stood out were becoming a big sister, joining my first cheer team, meeting my dad 's damily for the first time, getting my first puppy, and being on a television program called Zoom.
