The healthcare industry has an increasing demand of workers in the United states. The population is aging and many people are going into nursing homes where residents are diagnosed with different illnesses, but one condition in particular stands out to me the most—Alzheimer 's dementia. More than 5.4 million Americans will have Alzheimer 's disease by the end of 2016. Healthcare industries do their best to cut this number, but antipsychotic medications should not be the answer. I am passionate about healthcare because my whole life I have been around it. My grandmother, my father, my mother, and now myself are in the healthcare industry. My family has been my driving force ever since I could understand what was truly happening in nursing homes. I am enrolled in a health sciences course where I have been able to understand how healthcare professionals undergo a tremendous amount of work to find cures and treatments for people of all sorts. Therefore, I am willing to undergo that same workload but in a positive light. My goal is to become a clinical neuropsychologist who focuses on Alzheimer 's dementia patients.
Many people do not realize that Dementia is a symptom of Alzheimer 's disease. There are several branches requiring their own type of care. The most common types include Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson 's disease, and creutzfeldt - jakob disease. Each form has its own level of care and dementia related approaches. Dementia is a slow progression. The brain begins to lose its memory and other abilities. Therefore, individuals will cry and become easily frustrated as the patient begins to understand something is wrong. Many individuals who experience symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia may experi...

...of the key things that patients will have to understand is if they are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia is it will be okay. According to the American Psychological Association over 70% of Individuals over the age of 60 have a disability. Other neuropsychologist like myself will always be there to help.  Assessing in different branches of Alzheimer’s disease I will provide healthy alternative ways of care such as different sorts of therapy, mental and physical exercises as well as reducing the amount of antipsychotic medication one uses.
As a clinical dementia neuropsychologist I will ensure patients are optimistic, have hope, and accept themselves.  In the facilities I work in I will be able to regain basic functions in individuals daily lives well as performing therapies that will help residents get back on track without having to use antipsychotic medications.
