I love and enjoy eating. It just brings a feeling of satisfaction to my soul. I love to cook and try new things. When it is time to eat, I do my happy dance. (Just image me doing the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince of Bel Air but with my neck and hands.) I may eat breakfast twice out of the week. Most of the time in the morning I will eat a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda before going to work or something quick on the go. I am an application specialist. I am more prone to having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and cancer due to my family history. My dad’s mother has a total of 13 children and 11 who suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure. I want to live as long as possible so I can to take care of my family. My children are my life. I want to be here to see them graduate, go to college, and get married. I want to see them be successful. If I continue this unhealthy path I will not be able to see this happen. To make these changes I will need to think positive and have will power. I need to start loving myself. The bible says, “As a man thinks so is he.” If I think negative, then things will not get accomplished. I will always have an excuse for everything. If I think positive and believe that I can accomplish my goals, then it will happen. There are several things that I can do to change my diet. Instead of eating hamburgers and fries on the go as my breakfast I can take time to make a healthy breakfast or prepare a healthy meal the night before for the whole week. I can park far from the entrance at work. During work on my break I can walk around the building to get exercise. At my desk, I can do leg and arm exercises when I can. Start buying healthy food instead of sugary snacks for myself and children. Change the fried food to bake and grilled foods. Stop overeating by cutting my portions down and drink more water. I will not call my kids from across the room to do something for me. I will get up and do it myself. I will involve my kids in exercising with me either by walking or doing exercises in the house for at least 30 minutes. My eating habits affect them too. With the improvement of changing my diet and exercise it will improve my health. I know that things will not change overnight that this will be a long, hard journey. But it is beneficial in the long
In the book Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser writes about the fast food industry. Schlosser tells the story of J.R. Simplot, the man behind McDonald’s source for potatoes. He started his own business right out of the eighth grade, after dropping out. He started out small but eventually became one of the riches men in America. He owned then 160 acres of land to start off this business. He sold his potatoes to companies at first all natural. But he soon discovered that if you dry out the food it will keep for longer, more companies then bought from him. Then in the 1950's he found out about freezing them, and the method of frozen food. McDonald’s started buying and selling Simplot fries. The customers seemed to like it, they didn't mind the change or even realize it. As a result though from freezing the potatoes, they lost a lot of the natural flavors. Companies began cooking their food in a high percentage of animal fat to capture that flavor, but soon they switched. They traded beef fat for more chemicals. The fries flavor all depends on the chemicals, it is all fake, and there is even more saturated fat from their fries than in their burgers.
Nutrition is an important part of our daily lives because of the numerous effects it has on our health and fitness. There are many different influences that can affect a person’s nutritional habits. The type of environment and the way people are raised often affect the way they diet and whether that diet is healthy or unhealthy. Because a person cannot always choose how and where he or she is raised, education concerning nutrition and healthy diets should be taught to all ages and social classes. Lack of nutritional education and obesity rates are positively correlated in the United States. This lack of education as well as poor nutritional habits have played a major role in the increased amount of obese individuals in the United States, and throughout the world.

It’s easy to assume that poor countries usually have the most unhealthy diets. Well, that’s a misdirected assumption. High blood pressure is the number one cause of death around the world and heart disease is the number one cause of death globally. All of them are caused by unhealthy eating. People tend to eat less fruits and vegetables which increase the risk of diseases and health problems, causing 1.7 million deaths a year.("Global Dietary Changes Threaten Health") America, one of the richer countries, has the worst eating diets. Nearly 2 out of 5 people in America are suffering from obesity.(Richardson) In a year, each person eats approximately 1.996 pounds. That’s a lot of food.
Food addiction and obesity Addictive drugs like nicotine, cocaine and heroin, all can rewire the brain to crave the satisfaction that these agents produce. The desire becomes so strong that it starts to take over the body and it no longer becomes for pleasure and it becomes a need for your body. Now likewise, some people argue that some foods have the same power and effects on people that drugs do, where some of these foods can alter the brain in a way that resets the appetite and satisfaction threshold in a way that it’s out of reach, meaning a person can never have enough. Obesity levels these days are semi-dangerous, so some doctors have conducted an experiment that tested the effects of some foods on the brain, where they took 12 obese men after they consumed two milkshakes, with the same amount of calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates, and they were equally sweet. Fast food is popular in America. In fact, one of America’s nicknames is “fast food nation,” (“Healthy” par. 1). It is quick and only takes a short amount of time to get the food. There are so many fast food restaurants in the world. Every corner people turn, there is another McDonald’s or a popular fast food restaurant. What people do not know about this easy way of eating is how unhealthy fast food really is. Quick food does not mean nutritious food. However, many Americans debate whether fast food restaurants should be required to show the nutrition in their food.
Eating behaviour is a complex behaviour that involves a vast array of factors which has a great impact on the way we choose our meals. Food choice, like an other behaviour, is influenced by several interrelated factors. While hunger seems to drive our ways of food consumption, there are things outside of our own bodies that influence our food choices and the way in which we eat. The way we eat is controlled by and is a reflection of our society and cultures. I explore this idea through a food diary I created over a few weeks and the observations made by several anthropologists that I have studied.
After a long deliberation I decided to do my behavior modification project on my unhealthy eating habits. There are many meaningful reasons why I choose this as my behavior to modify. I want to kick start a healthy lifestyle change by eating healthier and being more active. Another upside to modifying this behavior is too hopefully *fingers crossed* lose a few unwanted pounds. The long term goal of this change is to live a happier, healthier life, and become more confident in myself. I have high hopes that I can achieve all of these goals by cutting out junk food and sweets and replacing those items with nutritious and balanced food.
The First Amendment of the Constitution states that all American’s have the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. American’s should also have the freedom to consume any food of their choosing because there is no limit to what foods a person should eat. However, there are foods that can lead to an unhealthy life. As a McDonald’s employee, I’ve seen how the food is made, prepared, and cooked… needless to say, it is not appetizing. The food served there has many calories, many grams of fat, and has high cholesterol, yet there are people that still go there every day getting a double cheese burger and a large fry knowing how harmful it can be to their bodies. The first strategy that I can use in order to limit the amount of trans fats, processed sugar, and cheese that I eat is to cut back the less nutritious foods that are found around my apartment. Now, throwing out every item of unhealthy food isn’t the way to go because, lets face it, we all need to splurge sometimes. On the contrary, I can cut my options back. By doing this, it will help to limit the temptations that I have in my everyday life. Another strategy that I can use is to control my portion sizes. My version of portioning has always been the method of putting more of the things that taste better and less of the things that don’t taste as good on my plate. I need to start balancing out my plate by their nutritious values instead of their “yummy” value. Don’t get me wrong, nutritious foods are yummy too, but they aren’t the same type of yummy. Planning what I am going to eat ahead of time is another way to stick to my goal. This will make it easier to stick to a more nutritious diet. There are so many new substitutions in cooking now. Trying new things has never been one of my strong suits, in fact, it kind of scares me, but by broadening my options and trying these substitutions it will create a healthier way to enjoy some of my favorite foods. Unhealthy Behavior is not in a state of good or normal health, in an unsound, weak, or unhealthy condition. Being a healthy person does not mean only being healthy in diet and being physically healthy. Mentally healthy is also part of being a healthy person. Unhealthy Behavior may not affect you physically however, there is always chance of affecting mentally. One of my Unhealthy Behavior is no doctor’s checkup. Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start which is the main reason behind the check ups. By getting check up and the right health services and treatments, it helps your chances for living a longer, healthier life. In the article, “Unhealthy Diet Problems,” Holly Case states that unhealthy diets are starting to go up and this will cause many health problems in the future. A healthy diet includes fruit, Vegetables and whole grain, but in the time we live in now most people choose to eat anything they want even if it is not healthy. Unhealthy diets can make you have more fat and higher sugar levels. If you eat unhealthy the most common consequences is obesity. Obesity in adults has recently become a big issue. With more and more adults becoming obese every day it’s pretty obvious why it’s become such a big deal. People everywhere are now exercising more to get fit, but most the time they forget to improve their nutrition. The obesity rate in adults isn’t the only thing to rise greatly. Teenagers and kids are now facing the same problems with obesity as adults are. The main problems that cause obesity are poor nutrition and a lack of exercise. Many people now are focus on exercising and forgetting how big of a role nutrition plays in weight. Obesity hasn’t been too much of a problem in generations before, but now it’s become a really big issue. I believe bad habits that start at a young age are harder to break when we’re older, which is why I want to focus on teenagers and their poor eating habits. I think the poor eating habits of teenagers transfer into adult hood where they become obese because they are no longer growing but still eating whatever they want. I want to know why the nutrition of teenagers now is so poor compared to the generations before us. Being a teenager myself, I can write about the bad eating habits I personally have, in an attempt to fix them by becoming better informed. I hope to completely break my bad habits by totally changing what I eat and my perspective on food.
My freshmen year when I lived in a dorm and all my food was prepared for me, I ate pretty well. I made sure to have a balanced diet and to eat a lot of nutritious foods as opposed to processed foods.
