Men and women are subjected through magazines and television on how their body should look. The fashion industry makes their clothing line based off of a certain body type as seen through fashion shows where the models are tall and skinny. Clothing companies like Abercrombie and Fitch only want certain people wearing their clothes to make an impression that only good looking people wear their clothes. With fashion and media portraying that certain body types are ideal, people spend money on diets and weight loss programs to fit this mold. Americans spend billions on fad diets such as Atkins diet and weight loss programs such as Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers. The most effective way to lose weight is through exercise and healthy eating. Today’s generation expects quick results with minimal effort. Fad diets prey on this generation wanting results without hard work, the big proclamation from these diets are quick results without having to get off the couch and exercise. Some people do see quick results from these diets but the weight loss and shrinking body size is mainly water weight which will only result in temporary loss. Most of these diets state that avoiding certain types of foods will revolutionize weight loss. The most popular fad diet is the high protein and low carbohydrate diets such as Atkins Diet. The thinking behind limiting carbohydrate is the thought of insulin created by the glutens in carbohydrates will cause fat to be produced at a higher rate. When a person cuts out certain food groups they lose vital nutrients and can suffer from malnutrition or can result in diseases such as anemia. The most effective weight and fat loss exercise is aerobic exercises also known as cardio program. The most well know cardio program is running but for people who are not able to run using machines such as elliptical or bikes can help. Swimming and walking is a beneficial aerobic exercise. When a person realizes that they need to lose weight it is the first step in the right direction. With so many commercials claiming quick weight and fat loss it is tempting to take the easy and fast way. Losing weight the steady weigh is the most effective and long term weight loss program. When a person works hard and achieves results there is a sense of pride that a person who takes the easy way will not realize. The fad diets and weight loss pill do not bring the physique results in lean muscle mass that healthy eating and exercise provides.
