The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling has been one of the most popular series to ever hit the bookshelves.The books aren’t focused on magic. J.K. Rowling just uses the idea of magical elements to make the series entertaining to read, yet still teach valuable life lessons along the way. These lessons can easily be applied and related to the daily lives of the readers. The Harry Potter series teaches readers the dangers of desire, the acceptance of others, the importance of teamwork and community and many others. The moral wisdom embedded in the Harry Potter books outweighs conservatives’ claims that wizardry is evil and that these books will result in evil children.

The capability to rely on fellow community members is another lesson the Harry Potter series teaches readers. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry wouldn’t have been able to stop Professor Quirrell without the help of Hermione and Ron: “... to Ron Weasly for the best played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years… To Hermione Granger for the use of cool logic in the face of fire… to Harry Potter for pure nerve and outstanding courage” (Rowling, 305). It took all three of them to get through all the obstacles they faced on their quest to stop Professor Quirrell. Harry, Ron, and Hermione use teamwork all throughout the books. They have learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses and help each other out when they can. They can always rely on each other and they know they have each other’s backs. It teaches the reader that it is okay to have weaknesses, because if you surround yourself with supportive people they will always be able to help pull you
