Most of the food we eat today is made with harmful pesticides, nitrates, hormones, and antibiotics. Most people do not really know about how their food was made. Most of the time, consumers go by what the box says. If the product says that it is made with whole grain wheat or made with natural flavoring, most people will think that it is healthy or “good” for them. The consumers do not know about all the other ingredients the manufacturer put in to make it taste delicious such as high fructose corn syrup or genetically engineered proteins but there are foods made without these harmful chemicals. These foods are made without any pesticides, GMOS, growth hormones, or irradiation techniques and are called organic foods. Organic foods are supposed to be healthier for consumers as they are farmed naturally. There are no harmful pesticides used or chemical fertilizers used. Animals such as cows and chickens are grass-fed, allowed to roam free, and fed a natural diet. This results in a better tasting, healthier antioxidant rich beef and chicken. The organic food industry has seen a 30% percent increase over the pass 5-6 years. There are at least 10,000 thriving organic farms as of 2006 than it the 2,000-3,000 traced in 1994. The organic food industry is one of the fastest growing segments in the food market but this is small “Measured against the two million farms estimated in the U.S. today, organic is still tiny.” (Organic).
People have praised organic food to be better tasting than conventional prepared food. Most organic farms are small organizations and deliver their products soon after harvesting. The elders did not want anything that looked unique or different from what food usually looks like so they modified it to be the same.
Organic foods are the way of the future. Organics is made to help the future from any developing disorders or diseases that could come from the artificial growth hormones or genetically engineered proteins and ingredients. Organic food not only taste better but also is more nutritious than conventionally made food. It is richer in antioxidants, which help reduce heart disease and decrease chances of developing cancer. The only con to purchasing organic foods is that it is more costly than conventional foods but is worth it to living a healthier life.
