Both began by throwing off oppressive rulers: The Etruscans in Rome and the Qin in China. Although many elements contributed to the growth of these two empires the most important factors that sustained them were strong governments and profitable trade”

Many of these battles he fought were attempts to drive nomadic peoples beyond the Great Wall.” “Government: Wudi worked to strengthen the Chinese government. He removed many harsh laws. China at the time had a civil service system which helped him to choose wise officials. Wudi set up an imperial university to train scholars in the Confucian teachings.” “Economy & Trade: Initially, Wudi improved the economy internally through building canals and roads to ease the movement of goods. He also had storage areas for grain set up throughout his large empire. When grain was plentiful the gov’t would buy and store it.
