Guns Don"t Kill People, People Do

With all the problems that occur today with gun violence on the television and political advocates against guns. The question that I always wanted to ask is, “are all the horrible things they say about guns true.” Are guns truly a danger or is it hype? Violence is prominent in society. The politicians claim we solve disputes through talking and negotiations. However, the truth is that most conflicts ultimately end with the pointing of a weapon. I researched why people wanted guns. Most claim it is for hunting or pleasure (the shooting clay pigeon or targets). Although I feel, more people think of it as an effective form of defense. People are extremely fearful of what lies out on the other side of their front door than what can occur in their own home. While growing up, I have never had a gun around my house. My parents were against owning a gun in the home. They told me from a young age that guns were dangerous. One can potential kill someone if one had one. I have never taken a side on the issue of gun control laws. There are many pros and cons about both sides of the argument. Therefore, I chose to point out the positives and negatives for guns. In 2005, I encountered guns for the first time when I married my husband who is a retired military NCO, who avidly collects guns for his collection. With servicing in many conflicts for the past 20 years, my husband was known for being the best gunner on Bradley fighting vehicle in the Army. My husband concurs with the current gun control laws and my perspectives changed about the positives and negatives of what needs to be done with weapons now. The first part of my research took place at the local gun store in Shelton. I walked into the store looking around see all the differe... ... middle of paper ... .... The idea of fear is that people are not educated and do not know enough about them to understand the purpose of having a gun. I was taught all my life that guns were evil and dangerous. The fear behind this made me watch my back and run the other ways when it comes to getting near a gun. Having had the experience of operating and firing a gun, I understand that gun can be useful, but only with proper education and handling. It is a tool just like any other tool such a knife it can be misused. Nevertheless, we should trust the sane law-abiding citizens to make up their own mind as to the dangers and the practicality of owning a gun, not our politicians Fear can be defeated by understand what something is beyond the hype is. If one are fearful of firearms, I challenge you to understand them by going to a range trying one out and maybe you might change your mind.
