Early Thursday morning, on October 22, 2015 about 8:17 a.m. Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a front door open in the 800 block of Lynah Street. While police officers was checking the residence they found Kiana Marshall (21), Alexis Kitchens (19), and Isaiah Martin (18), deceased, with gunshot wounds inside the home. Many neighbors said that they heard gunshots around 12:30 a.m. or 1 a.m. but was uncertain on where exactly the gunshots came from. Gun violence in the United States is a major issue, especially for the African American community. The protest was one of many held the night of July 7th. On July 7, 2016, Micah Johnson shot at a group of police officers, killing five and injuring nine other officers. Two citizens was also injured during the shooting. Johnson was an Army vet who was angry about police shootings dealing with black men. The shooting occurred at the end of the Black Lives Matter protest, around 8:58 pm. Johnson parked his SUV on Lamar Street, in front of the entrance to a college. Lying low, Johnson began shooting at groups of police officers and protestors on Main Street. Shots rang out around the school, students were being directed into bathrooms and closets by their teachers. Lanza made his way towards two classrooms of kindergarten and first grade students, in one of those classes was a substitute teacher, Lauren Rousseau, who was filling in the spot of a teacher who was out on maternity leave. In that particular class Lanza had shot and murdered all 14 of those innocent children. In another classroom was teacher, Victoria Soto, 27. Soto had moved her first grade students away from the door. Lanza burst into the classroom and shot Soto. After killing Soto, the gunman shot and killed all the students in that classroom.
