Gun control laws in America have been a long standing issue that is still a problem today. In America it is excessively easier to obtain a gun license than to obtain a driver’s license. Americans who want to obtain a license to drive in the United States must pass a written and a driving test with a government official driving instructor. Some states require a drug and alcohol course before issuing a license to drive.
The same concept should apply for obtaining a gun license. Due to guns licenses not being a test in ability like a driver’s license, obtaining a gun is like being given a deadly device without having to know how to properly control it when in use, or use it properly. This is because the law has not caught up to the social norms and impact it has on the behavior in this culture.
Most people say it is our constitutional right to bear arms. The argument should be made about how to regulate that right, and how to better keep it away from dangerous individuals. America has been in a controversy for many years over gun control.
Some Americans even want to eliminate background checks. This is possibly due to assimilation, or the biasing one’s judgment using background information. If there are too many negative marks on a record than one cannot own a gun, another would be the invasion of privacy for wanting to defend oneself.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System is a national system that checks available records of people who might be disqualified from receiving firearms. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System is a computerized background check system designed to respond within 30 seconds on most background checks. However keeping in mind the attribution theory, one can only tru...

Right now, the U.S. has a National Instant Background Check System; however, it contains many flaws. This system is meant to act as a filter to stop the wrong people from having guns. In 2007, the Bipartisan legislation was passed to strengthen this system. It relies on data supplied by the states, but the data is often incomplete and inadequate (Merino 104). Unlicensed gun sellers have also created a dangerous loophole. The law makes an exception for gun sellers who aren’t federally licensed gun dealers. These sellers sell guns informally through venues such as gun shows, and are not required to run background checks. This is a dangerous loophole where people who should not have guns can get them (“Gun”). Senator Frank R. Lautenberg once stated, commenting on the gun sh...
In this article written by Chris Frates, the author talks about how democrats and republicans are going back, and forth on gun control laws. Both parties are finding it difficult to come to an agreement. While leaving republicans asking the question “How do you take away Americans 2nd Amendment?” It’s a tricky situation as republicans, and congress continue to try find loop holes in the system to force stricter gun control laws. Despite efforts toward compromise, some Republicans doubt that any gun legislation will pass, with or without the support of some GOP (Grand Old Party) senators. As one senior Republican aide put it, “This amounts to a purity pissing contest on who’s going to best protect the Second Amendment.”

Although the Second Amendment prevents the federal government from completely banning guns in America, limited restrictions are allowed on the distribution and possession of firearms. Certain groups of people such as criminals, the mentally unstable, and soldiers dishonorably discharged from the military are prohibited from possessing or interacting with firearms (Flynn). These restrictions are enforced by background checks in some states on both a state and federal level. However, gun laws vary from state to state and are often not thorough enough; the background checks are flawed due to lack of information and misinformation, and guns can easily end up in the hands of criminals and malevolent individuals. The ease of obtaining a firearm in America fosters crime and a dangerous environment. Hence, the Second Amendment should be reinterpreted so that stricter gun laws can be implemented because modern citizens do not require guns, current background checks are flawed, gun...
Joaquin Sapien, How the NRA Undermined Congress’ Last Push for Gun Control, propublica.org, Jan. 24,
"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." Thomas Jefferson said this quote almost 200 years ago and to this day it still applies. The right to bear arms was such a priority to the founding fathers of this country that it received the second spot on the list of the basic rights of all Americans. This right is in the process of being restricted in order to supposedly reduce crime and homicide. These gun control laws should not be permitted because they restrict law-abiding citizens’ access to firearms, leave people defenseless when a crime does arise, and have been proven futile in other countries.

The gun control laws have a positive side and a negative side about it. One positive is how it prevents a convicted felon from buying or owning and having possession of any type of firearm which helps to prevent any future crimes from that individual. This prevention is done by a background check known as “The Brady Background Check", which is the process of this background check that is completed by a (FFL) Federal Firearms Licensed person. This licensed individual must get specific information from the person wanting to purchase the firearm and put the information into a computer database known as the “National Instant Criminal Background Check System” (NICS). The following would be some of the information needed from the purchaser to complete the check: the purchasers full legal name, nickname, and date of birth, current address, past address, phone number, color of eyes, and color of hair, race, and gender. They would also need to fill out a form as to whether or not the firearm is being purchased for someone else or themselves. This database would crosscheck three datab...
While acknowledging that it might be an unpopular view, many readers felt that laws should allow more Americans to be armed. “We need more concerned citizens trained and carrying a gun,” wrote P.J. White of Chicago. Many of these readers identified themselves as gun owners. “Yes, I have a CWP [concealed weapons permit],” wrote Joan W. Nicholson of Sonoma, Calif. “Gun buyers must register and get gun permits through their local or state police departments,” she added. “We are required to register our cars and pass a driving test for a driver’s license. It seems a no¬brainer to require similar laws for gun
