The sustainable development Agenda is entrenched in the concept of meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of the future and this is specifically related to food, water and energy (as cited in IISD, 2016). The UN development goals aim to to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. This paper looks at a British political party, The Green party to attempt to analyse how a single party may contribute to the sustainable development agenda as a whole including in regards to oil, water and food. (UN, 2016). The Green party came to be in the 1970’s after an interview was published with Paul R Ehrlich who predicted serious famine due to mass population growth and so the PEOPLE party was injected. Then in 1985, the name was changed to the Green party due to fears of another one being created by the liberal democrats. IN 1999 Caroline Lucas and Jean Lambert were elected to the European council and then in 2008 Caroline lucas became their leader until she was replaced by Natalie Bennett. As a party they have made small leaps of progress and this paper will also what progress they have politically to allow proper examination into how they tackle the sustainable development agenda. By definition an organisation is an organized group of people with a particular purpose. The green party’s specific purpose is to gain office as a means to promote their ecological and sustainable goals and to promote strategies to tackle climate change. With the resignation of Natalie Bennett as leader of the Green party this can prove to be an opportunity to change it for the better. It could be a portal of future successes and with their success in Britain it could also prove to be a portal for global influence with partnering countries. They won their first seat in Brighton and since then they have enacted the one planet city sustainability plan which aimed to give all residents the ability to lead a happy and healthy life with a fair share of the earth 's resources (green party, 2016). They became the first Biosphere Reserve in 40 years and increased the public open land spaces while also increasing recycling and sustainable efforts. All of which give an insight into the achievements and gains they have had and what they could potentially get in other councils.
