The novel “The Great Gatsby” is a story of a man named Nick retelling the story of his time with a man named Jay Gatsby. In the novel Nick gets dragged into a crazy plan that Gatsby had created to get back the girl of his dreams, Daisy Buchanan from the man she had married named Tom Buchanan. As the story progresses drama continues to unfold with one dramatic review after another leading to the breakdown of Daisy and Tom’s relationship, in addition to the murder of Jay Gatsby. With insight into the utility of deceit, dangers of past attachment, and the power of wealth: “The Great Gatsby” is a strong story addressing the dangers of trying to return to your past.
The story of “The Great Gatsby” is full of lies and deceit to do things as innocuous as create banter to as harsh as an attempt to shatter a marriage. Mr.Gatsby without even attempting to incite any rumors creates them for himself with his ambiguity: “The two girls and Jordan leaned together confidentially. ‘Somebody told me they thought he killed a man once” (Fitzgerald 48). All of the illustrious parties that Mr.Gatsby throws are all an attempt to get the attention of his past love and current obsession Daisy Buchanan. The past often contains many things that we desire, be it something as simple as a peaceful life to something strong such as a relationship with someone who has been lost. We all attempt to return to these feelings or times in many ways, from simple memories or tastes to ways as ridiculous and outlandish as Gatsby’s parties.
