Following the decade of economic prosperity and peace of the Roaring 20’s was the 1930’s which is commonly known as the Great Depression, an era of distress and instability that played an effect on altering the social, political, and economical infrastructure of the United States. Before the Great Depression, the United States was a representation of a consumer-driven society, with people loaning money from banks, in order to pay for luxurious items, they could not afford. However, in 1929, the stock market crashed, resulting in the nationwide closures of multiple banks and marked as the begin of turmoil for Americans. Throughout the 1930s, over “9,000 banks failed”. When I read that, I took a step back and was astonished at that number. It wasn’t just a couple hundred, it was thousands. The reason was that banks would loan out money, that would be invested in a stock. That stock would crash leaving the lender coming back to the banks wanting to take out loans in which the lender (the banks) with no return, in addition to bank deposits were uninsured and thus as banks failed, people simply lost their savings.

In ECT, a small electrical impulse is sent through the brain, resulting in an ephemeral seizure. Though the process is generally effective, modern science is unaware of the explanation behind ECT's success. Its history is filled with a large amount of stigma and the use of ECT as a therapy is still debated today. The indications, risks and adverse effects of ECT and the evidence justifying its clinical use shall be briefly discussed.
Myth 50 focuses on the perceived brutality of Electroconvulsive (Shock) Therapy and the misconceptions associated with it. Studies have found that any Americans both regular and those with medical training have negative beliefs about the effects and uses of ECT.
