When asked, In your college educational experiences thus far, have you had the opportunity to be creative in your learning experiences in any of your college classes? John replied….
“So far, I have only been in two courses that I consider to have had the opportunity to be creative in: one of my sociology classes (inequality) and in my art class. In sociology we held every class sitting in a large circle so that everyone can see each other. This class pretty much forced me to be creative in my thinking because it was a class where you shared your opinions and had to formulate a polite response to others if you disagreed with them. Also, the instructor would randomly chose a student to discuss a particular concept on the spot. If called upon, you were expected to reply with a creative answer. Art class is pretty much self explanatory. It’s an art class; you use creativity all the time because art requires creativity.”

I then asked the question, can you provide me with an example of what you believe a creative classroom environment within the college setting would look like? John stated…
“To me, a creative classroom environment is when the instructor grants his or her students the freedom and ability to interact with one another. This gives me the opportunity to learn from my peers and learn different perspectives that I may have not necessarily thought of on my own. Brainstorming with others is a great way to learn and come closer to appropriate answers and solutions. A creative classroom is one where the instructor is not lecturing the whole time, but makes the information interesting through discussions and examples that can be connected to the outside world.

Finally, I asked, thinking about your learning style...

Reflective points that I took away from this clinical interview are as follows: I must always think of what is best for the student in order for them to remain engaged in a meaningful learning environment. In saying this, It will be in the best interest of each student if I embrace a counseling approach that will allow them to engage their senses and perceptions, to reflect on past meaning-filled memories, and help to inspire the creativity that they already possess. The data from this project will remind me to incorporate a learning environment that is pleasant in order to bring out student emotions while feeling comfortable to share their good and bad memories. This way, I will be adept in helping him or her, as well as myself, to explore the connections so life and academic obstacles may be conquered.

Graduation Speech : My Personal Philosophy

- Erin Gruwell once said, “Be the kind of people that have enough passion to change the world. If we let ourselves be fire, thunder, or lightning, we could alter everything.” This quote taken from “Teach With Your Heart” was directed towards the students of class 203, but to me it describes my personal teaching philosophy perfectly. I believe that every one of my students will be capable of reaching great heights in life if I am the fire under them. It will be my job, as their teacher, to motivate them and show them all that they can accomplish, after all our students are our future....   [tags: Emotion, Developmental psychology]

Graduation Speech

- I realize that, during these short minutes I have to address my fellow classmates, all I truly have to offer you are my own thoughts and a little bit of philosophy that I have picked up during my three years here at West High School. Throughout our high school careers, we have been presented with clichés and catch-phrases that are meant to epitomize our entire school career into three or four words: Class of 2000, Bridge to the Millennium, and The Future is Now. As true as all of those phrases may be, I do not believe that any of them can define our entire education....   [tags: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address]
